Been looking forward to this place opening for a while. It's supposed to be a upper middle Chinese restaurant similar to a Golden Wok or a Ding How. The decor is great. Modern and well lit. Paris was our server and she was awesome. The problem comes down to the food and prices. The menu is huge which may not be a good thing. We sit down order the appetizers and then after a bit place an order for the entrees. Appetizers come out first. Appetizers Egg rolls - Not made in house but that's alright. They were perfectly fine. 5 dollars when they should have been 3.50. Fungus and cucumber salad - Actually really good. Gave us high hopes as they clearly have some more unique dishes. Was a decent value too. Now it's opening day so I did think there could be a wait for our food and sure enough it took about 30 minutes after we got out appetizers to get the entrees. Our server was apologetic. It's understandable on their opening day so I assume as they get into the swing of things it will get better. Combination fried rice - Oof. This was a swing and a miss. I had noticed when I walked in and saw some other people's plates the rice wasn't particularly colored. Still I was curious. The place we received was a decent portion but it did indeed lack color. The meats also had no color. When you took a bite of it all together it was okay. If you broke down each ingredient it was pretty bad. Bland chicken and beef, the shrimp was obviously frozen previously, which is fine, but it still had too much water in it. It was de-veined though so that's nice at least. There also wasn't that much protein. For 13 dollars it was simply not a good value. Especially when it has two big competitors so close. Had this been 8 dollars I would be saying something else. The recurring theme is value proposition. Orange beef - So this was the dish that had me say "yeah we ain't coming back". It's got a tempura type batter, but chewy pieces of beef. The orange sauce itself was awesome actually. But the fried beef left an awful oil film in your mouth. Now fried food can be oily by nature, but let me hit you with some science. When you fry something the water in the food and batter are released which keep the oil from completely entering the batter (bit of an oversimplification) . If you fry things at the right temperature and length, it should not be filled with oil. That's why high quality fried chicken is so good and doesn't feel so bad to eat versus fast food fried chicken. So when this dish leaves oil in your mouth that has a bad taste and stings a bit, it means the oil was used all day, for multiple things, and was cook without the best technique. Worse still this was a 18-19 dollar dish. I took a few bites and then asked to send it back. They did remove it from my bill after I asked them to. Which I appreciated and why they are getting an extra star. The server really was trying her best. This dish shows a lack of technique and a poor understanding of a good value. General Tso's chicken - So I will preface this one with me not liking the puffy style fried chicken that some places do. You know how Lee's Garden or Chop sticks buffet does it? Big puffy exterior with chicken chunks inside of it? Just not my thing. Now I ripped off the batter and man, that was some good chicken. Flavorful, had some color. The sauce was sweet and tangy with just a bit of spice. I can honestly say this dish was pretty good. Not my favorite preparation method, but that's a me thing. On a technical level it was great. Serving it with microgreens doesn't mean it should be 16 dollars. This should probably be more like 10.99. I see they have lunch specials, and maybe that's where it's at. This whole meal ( 2 apps, 2 entrees, 1 drink) was 48 dollars, after sending back the beef, which is honestly just too much. Had it been 30 dollars I would have said it was pretty good. But for 48 dollars I could have eaten at Golden Wok or Ding How and had a better quality meal. I could have gone to chopsticks and had only slightly worse food but more of it. At least the...
Read moreWe tried Tasty last night and I was disappointed now don't get me wrong the food was good with the exception of the fried rice which was flavorless and the teriyaki chicken that lacked the proper seasoning. The issue was for the price it wasn't worth it. The service was horrendous but no fault of our waitress she was new and she obviously had not been shown how certain things worked and was unfamiliar with the menu and how things were supposed to go. We ordered our appetizers which were fine. We asked for the duck but there was a mix up on which duck and we were told it came with buns and cucumber,I have a cucumber allergy so we told her if that was the case no cucumber I have an allergy. Then the manager came out with her and was arguing with us and her about which duck entree and it didn't come with cucumber it came with nothing. He was rude for a simple miscommunication and he even scolded her while they stood next to our table. Very awkward for us. So when we were told the duck came with nothing we ordered fried rice. We had to keep asking for that side of rice. This happened four times until I finally asked her to take it off because we were done eating. She came back with the rice and said she didn't know she was supposed to bring it to us brought a box and still charged us. Throughout dinner this was her constant complaint that she didn't know, they didn't teach her. We also had to ask for other items egg drop soup didn't have the crispy noodles it was supposed to come with. We had to ask for napkins more than once before they came. We just finished paying with food and her tip included close to a hundred dollars and she made a joke that I was going to steal her tablet we used to pay on. I felt it was very rude. So in the end I don't recommend seeing how it is run and the way we treated it is not worth it but I'm posting the food anyway. If you still want to try it just know what you are in for. There are plenty of similar places that have...
Read moreI was very much so looking forward to this restaurant opening because it looked like a beautiful cool interesting new Asian restaurant. I love Asian food and I'm quite The Connoisseur eating an Asian restaurants everywhere that I go including Hawaii and houston. I mentioned those two places because they're notoriously known for heavy competition and high quality food.
I have not eaten here but I'm giving you a review because I read these reviews and I feel like it's the best way to reach the management and the ownership. From the photographs of the food to the descriptions of the problems with the service they really need to spend some time revamping the menu as well as training their employees.
It's not just a matter of training their employees to provide proper customer service as much as it is creating a corporate culture and indoctrinating their employees so that they understand that the only reason they have a job is because we choose to spend our dollars even in today's difficult economic situation. Therefore the customer should be treated with the greatest level of care and concerned so that customers feel valued and appreciated.
But I see that the problem is the management because quite frankly I haven't seen anything offered by the management and apologies to these customers given their negative experience and that the restaurants are very new and they're already have so much criticism.
The only reason why I'm bothering to write is because there's such a limited choice of high-quality Chinese food court section. When you have high quality places like Dashies. Noodles and Dumplings, & Hot Joy, you really need to look at your menu and see what you can do to really be outstanding.
As a commercial real estate broker I've seen so many restaurants close their doors because they don't take these kinds of things seriously. So I wish you the very best of luck and I hope to see better reviews and better food photos in the...
