As I sit here pondering why? We saw Nick Lawrence band was playing and figured a great time to try it out. Kill 2 birds with one stone so to speak. First understand Burnt Bean, 2M and Castroville BBQ Company have us spoiled. Notice the order thats how they rank but all excellent choices. Ok so now that you know where I am coming from let me get started. Price is exceptional for BBQ. Location super convenient. Atmosphere wow its a BBQ joint meets Honky Tonk kind of what you would want to hang have a beer and listen to local music. Now thats all the good. I didn't rate the service. Walk up ordering and pickup your food. So not that its bad just not really needed.
Okay we got all the good out now lets get to the meat of it (no pun intended). I hate bashing food places i feel like my opinion might sway someone and remember this is a sampling of one. How do you mess up beans. I think I might have had better canned beans. Tasted them didn't taste right rinsed my palate and tried again. Potato Salad kind of tasted like they purchased it at HEB. It was okay and but not like others. Brisket was tender but very fatty and very salty and just not what you want in Brisket.
Okay its not all bad the turkey was excellent, Catfish was great wife had the Onion Rings weren't bad. Son said Cream Corn was okay but I spoil him with mine.
I think its about love and the 3 previous BBQ Joints have a love for it that turned into a colt following.
You have to love what you do to be great. Maybe they just need to put a little more love and if you need help with the simplest thing on your menu "Beans" hit me up.
Band was Great and the Shiner was ice cold so all in all...
Read moreMany may remember this spot by its old name and hesitate to return, unsure if the new version can measure up...but let me assure you, it’s not just as good, it’s 100 times better. The ambiance is fantastic, warm, and inviting. I tried the burnt end brisket sandwich with mac and cheese and fries. The sandwich was phenomenal...flavorful, perfectly seasoned, and cooked to perfection.
The fries, unfortunately, were on the older side. I’m not sure why places pre-make fries and let them sit...quality always wins over speed at establishments like this. For the love of Pete, just make them fresh when orderd..That said, the mac and cheese was solid. No breadcrumbs on top, but still above average.
Some reviews knock the chicken fried steak and other non-barbecue items, but let’s be honest...you wouldn’t go to an Italian restaurant for a burger, so don’t go to a BBQ joint expecting perfection in unrelated menu items. That said, I hope they do revisit the prep for the chicken fried steak to ensure the crust sticks, because we all know why it sometimes doesn't.
Back to the star of the show: the brisket. It was excellent...and the price made it even better. You’d be hard-pressed to find a quality brisket meal this good at a better value. Plus, they offer a military discount, which is always appreciated.
Now let’s talk ambiance...this place is huge, with a layout that includes a dance floor almost the size of Stetson’s, and live music to match. The atmosphere is lively and perfect for a Friday or Saturday night out. Great food, great vibes...so Wether u need a tasty bite for lunch or a night out, this place is highly...
Read moreWent for the first time today for lunch, and it wasn't too busy just yet. Got the 3 meat plate of Brisket, Turkey, and Chicken with Fried Okra and Cream Corn as the sides. Ok, let's get down to the list when you walk in, and the music is a little loud. It wasn't concert level loud, but I feel if you had an elderly person with you, it may be a little too much for them. Clean tables, floors, counters, and staff were presentable. When I got to the counter to order, the cashier was extremely pleasant and very helpful in guiding the menu and where to get items. Staff was moving except the bar area looked empty at the moment, sure it got busy in the evenings. Now for the food! The brisket that I got was tough. I'm not gonna lie about it. I hate saying, but I would of taken Rudy's brisket. I've done my fair share of briskets and messed them up, so it may have been off brisket. The Turkey was flavorful and done well. The chicken was also flavorful and smoked very well. The skin was a little tough but full of spice. The sauce they offered 2 a spicy and regular. Went regular, and it reminded me of Franklin's BBQ regular sauce, which is delicious. The fried okra was done perfectly, not too overdone, nor left soggy. Now the cream corn was ok. It was sweet but not creamy it was more on the congealed side. Will I go and try Texas Star Inn again? Yes, I will. I never want to give a place a single visit for some minor things that could have been a single event, so I'll...
