My roommate invited my wife to go to the Blue Star contemporary art building where they show different exhibits. I just tagged along and didn’t expect much from the day. I was truly taken aback by the different styles of art and their depth. I was especially moved by The Veterans Book Project by Monica Haller. I come from a long line of veterans, I am an Air Force veteran, my daughter and stepdaughter are both Army veterans. The first book I picked up was about an army nurse caring for patients in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. My stepdaughter was an Army nurse in Iraq caring for patients in Operation Iraqi Freedom. It truly gave me a deeper understanding of what she experienced. My daughter served in Afghanistan in the Signal Corps. I love the military, but it is not all camaraderie, medals, and tickertape parade‘s. Some of it is very ugly and painful. This particular art exhibit moved me to the core. I have gone to the Blue Star on and off for decades; I really have taken it for granted lately. It is, and always has been, amazing...
Read moreOkay I am so glad Google reminded me about writing a review. I am new to the neighborhood. I was really excited about going to Blue Star. My experience with the store located next to the brewery was very positive. The two girls that worked the morning shift were absolutely lovely and very attentive even though they did let us know that the reason for that is they work off of tips. My experience in the restaurant was not as positive but ultimately I had a good time. I did not have cash to tip the girls next door and tried to work that out with my bartender and even talked to a manager about it but none of them were willing to cooperate. Even though the place was slow it would not have been hard to address this. That place is very fun the food was okay. And the potential for good service is there! It's probably just a lack of managerial skills. And I hate that it's not easier to tip on the card for those people who rely on their tips. I look forward to going back and hopefully having a better...
Read moreNice trails by the San Antonio river with a stepping stone part that's more like leaping stones so have sturdy ankles! 😀 It was situated along a beautiful neighborhood complete with gardens and yapping yet fenced in pups.... Had bikes to rent and spots to picnic or purchase and dine in once back at the brewery area. I'd say although it gave a vibe of safe and secure I lived in the neighborhood prior to the transformation so I still saw signs of wandering individuals under the influence of unknown? Watching the passers by as they jogged or biked by around inside brush and trails areas which alarmed me as I raised differently and have a high sense of alertness and security with my overobservstions.... So if one were to assume safety to jog at night I'd recommend not to after dark until these types of issues r safely addressed. Meantime, enjoy the area safely in it's beautiful...
