I have been a customer of Tia's Taco Hut ever since they opened up their location on Babcock and Huebner. After years of loyalty and having recommended them again and again, I think their growth is starting to show. Something has happened recently that is changing my opinion about them.
As I normally do 2 or 3 days/week, I visited the location on Blanco Rd across from Churchill High School yesterday (5/14/24) after I dropped off my son at school. On this day, however, the normal cashier was not there, and the food was SUB-PAR, at best. In fact, the TORTILLAS for each of the three tacos I ordered were hardly even COOKED at all! They were chewy and pasty and almost inedible. One of the tacos I ordered was the Papas Rancheras, and even the potatoes weren't cooked through enough. In fact, they were almost hard. I had every intention of calling the restaurant and speaking to the manager but the day got away from me and I didn't get around to it.
Well, I visited the restaurant again TODAY (5/15/24), hoping that yesterday was maybe just an anomaly and everything would be back to normal. I gave them too much credit. Just to BE SAFE, I ordered my tortillas "well done", assuring that they would be cooked through and not chewy or pasty. When I arrived at the window to pay, I was told that there is a 99-cent charge for well-done tortillas. WHAT!? It would cost me nearly a $1.00 to have them fully cook EACH TORTILLA and make them more edible. THAT is ridiculous! Whoever the Manager is at this location should be replaced. The idea that a simple request to FULLY cook their tortillas, based on a previous bad experience, is absolutely RIDICULOUS.
I used to think that charging 99 cents for CHEESE added on a taco was bad (aka Las Palapas), but THIS is worse! I guess back to Las Palapas I go... and there's a location literally 500 feet from this Tia's restaurant too. Goodbye Tia's!... and I'll telling...
Read moreMy wife and I have been to Tias Taco Hut before over on Babcock 410 the food and service was great. So today we went to this location because we realized it was little closer to us we got there like at 1:30pm. I ordered beef enchiladas and sweet tea my wife had breakfast rancheros,..The waitress had repeated our order was correct. Unfortunately she brought me cheese enchiladas, i told her I said beef she showed the ticket and insisted I told her cheese, i told her you repeated my orde and said beef. To avoid anymore confrontation I told her it was ok. She didn't even apologize or try to make it right. The food was ok , wasn't what I ordered, then she never gave us refills when we asked her at 2:20 for refills she says their closing and there's no more tea, i understand u close at 3pm but you should still have tea. We were very disappointed in the service and food this time, but of course we will be back because the breakfast is outstanding, just hope the...
Read moreI surprised the employees by entering this place, although both open signs were lit. After I asked the lady staring at me from the counter if they were open, she said si! But she did not associate my question with her "what the hell are you doing here" face... Perhaps why its empty? Nobody was here but I had come to check out the food. After seeing Tia's all over town, I thought maybe I was missing something. Sadly I was not missing anything other than another SA Texmex chain sin sabor. Aqui, tampoco hospidalidad. C'mon San Antonio, do better. Also the restrooms were closed the entire half hour I was here. Olympia, I'm really sorry I bothered you by stopping in. I won't make that mistake again.
I had the soft tacos. The frijoles were an insult to SA & Mexico. I didn't know you could make picadillo without flavor. Rice was good. Tea...
