I recently visited Tulsi Fine Dine for their weekend buffet. The restaurant was busy but not crowded, providing a lively atmosphere without feeling too packed. Given that San Antonio lacks a variety of good Indian restaurants, Tulsi stands out as one of the better options, although it does not fully qualify as fine dining. The ambiance, however, is elevated compared to many other Indian eateries in the city, with tasteful decor and a welcoming vibe.
The buffet offered a decent variety of dishes, though the dessert menu was limited to just kheer. While the selection was singular, the taste of the kheer was enjoyable. Most of the dishes in the buffet were delicious, with the lamb curry being particularly flavorful. The garlic chicken appetizer and samosa chaat were also a highlight, bursting with savory goodness.
However, there were some notable drawbacks. Despite the restaurant's busy status, the naan was never refilled until I specifically requested it. Additionally, the food in the buffet containers was not warm, detracting from the overall dining experience.
On a positive note, the service at Tulsi Fine Dine was excellent, with attentive staff ready to assist. With some improvements like better food temperature control, regular food refills, and addressing the fly issue this place has the potential to become a top choice for Indian cuisine in San Antonio.
Despite the few drawbacks, the quality of the food and the overall experience make it...
Read morePuhleeease! When will Indian restaurant wannabes figure out the basics: 1) don't cut corners with water, ice, soda 2) don't serve left over food for buffet 3) don't leave hardened naan for buffets 4) don't start your restaurant as a side hustle next to your own Indian Grocery store 4) Don't charge exorbitant $18 for a buffet.
So please, if you want to open a desi restaurant, go ALL IN and serve the desi crowd with sincerity and passion! Ironically these very same businesses think that customers can't figure these out within minutes of walking into their restaurant and the owners hilariously think that that they can get away with it! I'm being generous with my 2 stars and offering this review as a PSA and as a word of advice to the owner!
Bottomline is that the Indian Grocery is their main focus and main source of income. This restaurant needs to improve fast or will have a lot of one time customers!
