I haven't been back to Doppio in a very long time but this recent visit did not disappoint. It was a Saturday night but surprisingly dining in was met with ease. The restaurant was bustling but plenty of seats to accommodate.

We ordered: Burrata - anytime burrata is on the menu, you can bet I will be ordering it! This one did not disappoint with the perfect compliment of truffle honey, hazelnuts, toasted bread and arugula. A definite repeat item. Honestly, this alone could serve as a dish for one depending on how hungry you are.

Marechiaro - squid ink pasta? bet! I will always get this too if it's on the menu. One thing to point out, the ink is in the pasta and it's not a squid ink sauce. I like it both ways, and this one was a good one. It's more of a frutti di mare with a tagliolini pasta. Nice chunky pieces of scallops and flavorful clams.

La Carne pizza - it wasn't "too" meaty as I thought it might be. It was a perfect balance of chorizo and Italian sausage. It had a smokey flavor along with the perfect chewiness of the crust.

Kids Pizza - $10 for a nice sized cheese pizza shaped like Mickey Mouse. My kids were happy with this.

Kids Penne Alfredo - $10 for a Penne Alfredo which was also enjoyed. It had a hint of truffle in the sauce and my kid loved it.

Ambience can be loud as it's great for groups, but also looked to be a popular date night spot. And I'm always grateful for family friendly type restaurants as well. Overall, very happy to have returned to Doppio and will have to stop...

Our experience was horrible. I had made a reservation and stated it was a birthday day party. When I arrived I said I had a reservation hoping there was already something special for a birthday. Two friends wanted wine and went to the host asking for a wine recommendation and to ask that the wine be put on a separate bill. My friends were treated rudely by the host. My friends came back saying they were dismissed and treated rudely. The waiter came to take our order. I was asked if I wanted my soup with the main course or served first. I said I wanted I wanted the soup first. We were then asked if we wanted separate checks. I said I was paying so put everything on one check except for the wine. We were served our meals. My soup came with my main and not before. No one came back to check on us. I had no opportunity to check in with the waiter about a dessert for the birthday. We waited and waited. No dessert menu was given to us. Finally we had to talk to the host to get our bill. The bill came with all separate checks. I said I wanted the bill as one bill with the wine separate. The waiter came back with one check which included the wine. We were very disappointed and my surprise of a birthday dessert for my friend was squelched. We were a party of four senior citizens and felt we were being discriminated and treated rudely due to our age. This was a terrible...

The food was good. Other aspects interfered with enjoying it.

First visit. I made a reservation for a party of 2 that requested an outside table for a Saturday night. No outside tables available when we got there; the option presented was take an inside table or leave. We dined inside.

The place was loud. REALLY LOUD. It started as rattle your brain in your skull loud, can barely hear the person 2 ft away from you. It got a little better.

Food was truly good. We ordered a crostino, ravioli, branzino, and a gelato for dessert. All were quite good - unexpectedly so. The prices were reasonable too (well under $30 each for the pasta and branzino). My wife liked her cocktail. The wine list offered some Italian wines by the glass, and we indulged. The white (Vermentino) was served too cold and the red (Aglianico) too warm. We fixed the temps, but the wines were pretty one-dimensional (like lower end fruit bombs). Could have been better for $13-$15 a glass.

Service was reasonably prompt. We were first served the entrees for the table next to us. We thought that we got that straightened out, but we were served their bill also.

The food was good enough for us to have some interest in returning. I wish that the other aspects were better, and I'd be willing to pay a bit more for a better experience with the same...

Doppio Zero is legit. Their fame was well established in Mountain View but they've carried over that experience faithfully to San Carlos. The atmosphere is clean and crisp, yet cozy and welcoming. Not snooty yet upscale enough. DZ is all about the food. I benchmark every pizzeria with their Margherita and DZ ranks one of the best. Their Napoletana style pizza comes with a well chewy dough, even when thin. The tomato sauce is not watery which is very difficult to pull of on a thin crust Napoleatan Margherita. The cheese was perfect and the pie was fired up perfectly. A cheese pizza doesn't get much better. Absolutely top class and competes with the best. Other foods like potato croquettes, salmon carpaccio, truffle fries, and squid ink pasta all were flavorful and wholesome. The taste profile of DZ is bold yet gentle. They aren't shy to make a statement but do it so amicably. And finally you get this world class Italian dining at an absolutely reasonable price. Doppio Zero is wonderful. Just make sure to have reservations. Stand-ins can be a long wait as the place is so popular.

WOW. Pleasantly surprised. What an addition to the San Carlos neighborhood. First of all the atmosphere here is great, the design, color scheme, lighting, the plates, all is just beautifully done, worth it just to pop your head in at least for a drink. Second, the food was incredible. The Branzino was well worth it, light and buttery in taste but big enough to make you feel satiated. We also got the Delizia pasta which was vegetarian but had so much flavor still with the pesto and enough veggies in there to keep it interesting. I loved the service, the bartender really knew what his stuff and everyone was pleasant and friendly but not over the top.
