We were at Highlands yesterday around 6:30pm. It was nowhere near busy. Not even half the restaurant full. My fiancé asked for her cheeseburger burger to be wrapped in lettuce, the server let us know this was possible. I got the BBQ Gouda burger. We ordered calamari as an appetizer. The appetizers and bbq burger came out together. I let the server know I was not happy with the apps coming out the same time as one of the burgers and he said "oh I'm sry the kitchen is very fast". Idk how my burger is faster than a cheeseburger. Whe. The cheeseburger came out it was NOT wrapped in lettuces, at this point I had not tried my bbq birger since we were working on the app and I wanted to wait for my fiancé to get her burger as well. When I finally tried my burger, and I took 2 bites to be sure. It was oh so salty, when my fiancé tried hers she let me know the meat was very salty. So add the gouda and bbq sauce to an already salty patty...I asked one of the servers (ours was nowhere to be found) if I could swap my burgers and he asked which one but seemed rushef and angry. I asled for the avocado burger, no canadian bacon and the maple bacon on the side. He seemed confused so I asked him for a menu so I could point out which burger. Again, not friendly he went to grab a menu and asked which one. When the new burger came out to my surprise, no maple bacon on the side. When our server checked in I lwt her know the bacon was missing. She brought back 2 slices of regular bacon, not maple bacon like the burger was supposed to have. When we got ready to pay she said she had removed the bbq burger and I thought "ok at least they're owning up to the mistakes". When we paid we realized they took off the bbq burger but added the avocado burger lol WOW. So they were planning to charge for 2 burgers?!?! This is our 3rd time here and potentially our last. I was hesitant to write this review because we love Drakes and Groovy Goose. Not sure what's going on with this one but I hope they get it together. Very disappointed with the food and...
Read moreWent to Sneakers over the years until they went belly-up, then decided to try and visit Highlands. Didn't really notice any difference whatsoever from Sneakers even though Highlands seemed to undergo renovations while it was in transition. When sitting at the bar, 2 major things I noticed was fruit flies have infested the bar/beer taps, and 1/4 of their beer taps were gone. Fruit flies tells me they need to clean out their lines and sanitize everything daily. Was going to order some food to-go but the fruit flies grossed me out so decided not to. Also the bartender wouldn't say 1 single word to me the entire time, but instead gave me weird stares. I also gave him a substantially good tip, because I believe in good tipping from previously working in the service industry, and he again didn't say anything, not even a simple "thank you". Wouldn't come back, which is a shame because there's not too many good sports bars...
Read moreI stopped into Highland Park Sports Bar & Grill in San Carlos after hearing a Texas country playlist while walking down the street, which immediately pulled me in. The atmosphere was lively, and the drinks were definitely a highlight—nice and strong, reasonably priced, and perfectly poured. The bartender was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu, which made ordering easy.
For food, I started with the garlic parmesan onion rings. While the presentation looked good, the taste fell short—overcooked, too much batter, and very little onion inside (4/10). For my entrée, I had the grilled fish tacos, which were decent but not great. The tortillas were overcooked and tough, and overall, they felt a bit overpriced for what you get (6/10).
All in all, the drinks and service were solid, but the food left a lot to be desired. I’d come back for the bar and atmosphere, but not necessarily for...
