Empanada Kitchen — Restaurant in San Diego

Easter Brunch brought request for Empanadas from North Park Empanada Kitchen! They have a great “buy a 24 pack frozen and bake them at your convenience” with really detailed instructions so they bake up and brown nicely. I ordered the following: 4 Beefexcellent, with ample seasoned filling 4 Chickenexcellent, with ample seasoned filling 4 Lambexcellent with ample seasoned filling 4 Ham and Cheeseaverage, and with little filling 4 Caprese (Tomato, mozzarella, basil), delicious, but with little filling 4 Ratatouille (roasted veggies), delicious, but with little filling 6 apple~these were a disaster. I would not order these again. The empanada dough which works great for the savory empanadas is a bust for these “dessert” empanadas, and the apples were hardly embellished with good spices or anything. This was very disappointing! But as far as the savory empanadas, they are quite tasty! The North Park location has a tiny parking lot that is still helpful to dash in and pick up a pre-paid order! What a pleasant surprise! All 3 I tried were a hit. Fresh tasting, not greasy like the average empanada that you can get elsewhere and most importantly, very satisfying. Not much fuss about it - you get in, pick your flavors and get your order within seconds. You can take them to go or eat them right outside (table and chairs provided). I can definitely recommend the ones I ate - caramelized onion and mozzarella, mushrooms and goat cheese and lamb. All three were very tasty and the sauce they came with complimented them well. My experience here was nothing less than otherworldly. My order was graciously taken. The empanadas handed to me in a beautiful vessel of love with regular-level spicy sauce. And the taste, oh the taste. Simply unfathomable flavor combinations. My mind and soul surpassed known levels of consciousness as I aggressively consumed empanada after empanada. Lamb? Yes please.
