Great food and great aesthetic and great drinks! Really love this place.
Totally recommend sitting outside. It's got nice benches and greenery and you have your little home private spaces as well. Came here for happy hour but ended up getting a lot of food off the main menu as well.
All the sliders come with skinny fries, and they are very generous with the portion here. Quite a large amount of fries. Definitely no complaints. These fries are amazing!
MESO TASTY SLIDER (grilled chicken, pineapple, maui onion, sweet chips, swiss cheese, red pepper aioli) was good! Really big sliders here. We actually split it among three of us and everyone got a decent tasting.
LAMB SLIDER was really nice. Lamb was perfectly cooked and soft and just medicine your mouth.
Also got a chicken slider but with the lamp slider fillings. So it was the grilled chicken, mint jelly, blue cheese, beet root. This was an amazing combination. They need to add this to their menu. Everything went perfectly well together.
HUMMUS & VEGGIES (chimichurri hummus, seasonal veggies, naan) was so so good! Chimichurri hummus was so good. The flavor was something very unexpected. Portion size of this was really big as well. We had to ask for extra naan and veggies to finish it up.
FRIED GREEN TOMATO & BURRATA SALAD - very creative. Server warned us that one of the white lumps was poached egg and it was a good call there. Very large lumps of burrata scattered everywhere so we would not have known which of those was the porched egg. Honestly, I don't like tomatoes so I was very skeptical getting this dish but it was a good surprise. Tomatoes are not overly greasy even though they were fried and also the combination of everything went well together.
SALMON & KALE SALAD but with the grilled chicken instead. Look more like chicken thigh instead of chicken breast but I guess it was okay. I really large amount of chicken there and quite a large amount of vegetables as well. Veggies did feel quite dry though
NZ MEAT PIES were huge! And very flavorful to be honest. I'm personally not a lamb and beef fan as much, but my husband and friend enjoyed these a lot. The tomato chutney that came with was lovely. It came with fatty fries (instead of the skinny fries) and to be honest, the skinny fries are much better.
Seasonal cocktails and hot toddy were lovely. As was the...
Read moreOh, my amazing friggin' food place! That is DNZ to a T! It quickly became our new favourite restaurant in the past month. Been for brunch, lunch, and dinner and every item we've ordered has been extraordinary. The first time we tried DNZ we were just driving by headed up 30th to a different restaurant and saw how popular it was and figured it must be good. Our server recommended a couple of things and we went for it: Chicken Bit with skinny fries and the Hogs and Heffers with fatty fries. Every bite was great! I'm not known for finishing meals just usually accidentally ordering the biggest meal at the table. Yup the chicken bit was large and yes there were leftovers that were boxed up (and a tasty midnight snack). Second visit was brunch and we started the meal with dessert: the bread pudding. Okay, disclaimer, I am a new fan of bread pudding like I can count the times I've had it on one hand and I'm so glad their version is one of those times. Good God! It was so ridiculous I wanted to bathe in it. It was served with a salted caramel (I believe) cream that was just perfect. For my main I had the chicken biscuit and he had the Kiwi Breakfast. The chicken was moist and yummy and the biscuit was airy, buttery deliciousness. He barely looked up from his feast and devoured every bit on the plate and tried to eat mine too. The most recent visit was last week. We were looking for some patio action, a good bite, booze, and a place for our dog to eat her birthday cake. Yup, we totally had a pup birthday on their patio. As it was hot as heck out, I went for the beet salad and fatty fries and he had the chicken pot pie. The beet salad was fresh and flavourful and the right choice. I had to try his open-faced pot pie; it tasted like thanksgiving! You know that taste of meat, stuffing, mashed potatoes, herbs, spices, and unctuousness? Well, it had all of those flavours. It was dynamite! During our food fest, we celebrated our pups birthday and she chomped down on her cake while we watched, drank, and tormented her with an embarrassing hat and pictures. So yes they're extremely dog friendly. The management and staff are super friendly and helpful...
Read moreH And I at his suggestion made our way to Dunedin on August 4 at approximately 7pm we arrived. First impressions from the outside was positive as the pictures I'm posting suggest. The aesthetics could be considered a Polynesian influence. Alot of wood and surface areas which provide varying depths contrasting Dak/light colors, the plants/vegitation and aspects of the decor. There are 3 separate areas which diners can sit, each providing unique experiences in their configuration, aesthetics, and exposures. An outside area parallel to the side walk at ground level, an elevated area on the side street intersecting 30th. And inside near the bar area. Ordered two of the beers, both the Maui Pineapple lager. I've had it before and if you are a fan of pilsner/lagers this beer provides a smooth crisp, refreshing and hint of pineapple experience. For the main course I will just comment on my order the salmon, quinoa, and grill vegetables. The quinoa and arugula mix was fresh and light, presented well and with the light taste on the palate. The salmon was appropriately warm/hot, cooked well not overdone but a more medium and topped with a nice portion of sauce which complimented the salmon with tartness. The grilled vegtables were firm and appropriately warm and nice in their texture and light taste. I ordered the peach cobbler and was pleasantly surprised by the portion size and with both the taste and texture on the palate, not overly sweet even with the ice cream topping. The service was pleasant and efficient but in fairness the restaurant was only moderately busy at most. Overall the aesthetics, service, and food quality and portion size to price considerations for me were all very positive. What I didn't like was the fact that the bathroom even though clean enough, lacked paper towels or equivalent to dry hands. An air hand dryer is the offer or toilet tissue/nothing. As I've read, in effect your hands are dried with a blower but the bacteria/germs are cast off to the surrounding area nearby leading to contamination. Overall in my opinion the Dunedin is worth a repeat visit and would fall in the range of 4.3...
