After two visits to this place, one to check it out and another for my birthday, I have only experienced terrible service. The first time my party of 3 ordered all you can eat and I took them well over 30 minutes to get any meat to the table not to mention we ordered sides as well and those came 5 minutes before the meats. So we were just looking at our grill that was defective and turning of every 20 minutes. Every time we asked for something, we had to ask 3 times for any results. Waiter couldn't even get us hot sauce we went the while 2-3hours reminding them and nothing. Now today for my birthday I decided to give this place a second chance because their meats and dishes are pretty good. We came in and they sat us in like 10 minutes. I was excited because not to many people were there so the service would be better but boy was I wrong. I went with the mentality of ordering again the all you can eat. When I asked the waiter she said they were not doing it. That disappointed me but I accepted it because maybe they were losing money or something else caused that so while I was searching what else to get I settled on a pack that I didn't really want but had some meats I liked from the last time. I kid you not like 5 to 10 minutes later after we ordered a couple sits down next to us and ordered the all you can eat. I was really upset, so I confronted the waiter about it and the excuse they gave was that they just started handing out the menu. Like come on your telling me if I waited 5 minutes I could have ordered what I originally wanted not something that only had a couple things. That left a bad taste in my mouth honestly and I ruined the mood. I wanted to speak with he manager but I did not want to waste my breath instead I'll just express is as a review. Throughout the stay the waiter not sure if they had something against us because we rarely saw them mind you it was not busy. They never even asked to change our grill when the things was literally on fire on the grill section. Such a messed up thing on the menu option. Honestly an experience that has confirmed to never dine there again. Sorry if this was long but this only covered half the portion of...

Was in the mood for some good japanese bbq and decided to stop into Gyu-Kaku since we were in the neighborhood after my daughters martial arts. Parking in the center while free, is a bit difficult especially with popular shops like Trader Joes and Chucky Cheese.

Totally forgot it was San Diego Resturant week. Wait wasn't too long at noon. It was about 30 minutes. Sat down and realized it was resturant week. Ordered the lunch special for all three of us. Received three miso soups, rice, salad plus our choice of three appatizers (gyozu, chicken karage, and spicy cucumber salad). After just the salad and appitizers we were starting go get full. All of them was delicious. Although the spicy cucumber salad was not that spicy. Then our three orders of hanger steak, one chicken teriyaki, one spicy pork, and one garlic chicken thigh came. Veggies including brocolli, zuchinni, and shisito peppers also arrived. After grilling everything and sharing one bowl of rice between the three of us, we called it done. Packing up the majority of the meat (beef, chicken, and pork), some veggies, plus the two bowls of rice, we received our desert. My husband grabbed the smores, and my daughter and myself had the green tea ice cream. All was wonderful. Green tea ice cream was flavorful and my husband loved the smore my daughter put together for him after burning the mashmellow in the fire.

That night with the leftovers I made fried rice with all the leftovers. Great value for two meals for threr people for $75.00 + tip.

Thank yoy Gyu-Kaku. We...

I didn't intend to write this kind of negative review when we finished our excellent meal tonight. I had an early dinner tonight with a work colleague. At 5:30 PM, We were seated after only a 15-minute wait, which I was surprised about considering how long I've waited here before (it has always been worth the wait). We had the Value Meal for Two People; the proteins, rice, veggies, and everything was excellent, and our server was spot-on attentive. The problem happened when we were done, paid our check, and it was about 7:20 PM. We were still in conversation when a different server approached our table and, in a very condescending manner, with the most fake concerned smile, asked us to "please leave because we'd exceeded our time limit" so she could set up for the next party. I politely "fake smiled" back and told her she had just insulted me. We left the table immediately and spoke with the general manager, Sumuno (sp.), before leaving. He apologized and said that is not something that his staff should say. He offered no recourse, no discount on future dining, nothing to make up for what happened, and I didn't ask for anything. We left. I've spent several thousand dollars at this restaurant in the last two years; I host business meetings regularly and love this place. It's going to take me quite some time to consider returning. I understand busy and needing the space, but I did not expect to be treated so disrespectfully and carelessly...

Update: This place no longer has all you can eat! The food is still delicious - just not quite as affordable anymore. The service here is still great, and the wait seems to be shorter now that the menu has changed. I was also a bit disappointed that they did not have steamed egg here, but I’ll definitely still come back next time I need some Japanese BBQ! I highly recommend the beef tongue here! =========== Best barbecue place in town!! This beats all the other Japanese AND Korean BBQs. Aside from all the variety of quality meat along with their unique (and delicious) marinade, my favorite is their beef tongue. The quality of beef tongue here has consistently been better than every other barbecue places I’ve been too. We always get one of the all-you-can-eat options. There are three different choices for all-you-can-eat. We decide based on how much beef tongue I want to eat that day. Not to mention, they have s’mores (with different flavors of marshmallows!) as a dessert option!
