I stopped there as a last resort because I was short on cash and needed something quick to eat. I should not have stopped there. All of the people working there were rude, pushy, and high-strung. When I tried to request to the cooks to please line the styrofoam with something so that the hot tacos didn't touch the plastic, they full on ignored me and wouldn't even look up at me. One of them said to the girl at the register "¿Que quiere esta?" which means "what does this blank want?" The other cooks ignored me because I didn't speak Spanish to them; you could see their contempt in the the way they pretended not to hear me. So the woman at the cashier barked at me to find out what I want, but also with an attitude of exacerbation with ME. One African American woman came in, apparently she was a regular and was spunky and amiable, they treated her very well because she greeted them in Spanish. But because I didn't speak it, or have dark skin, they ignored me or treated me as if I was asking them for handouts. Their food was not exceptional; a very ordinary, copy-paste Mexican food, but the dining area was pretty awful, used as their bodega with styrofoam boxes stored in the corner. Dirty and cramped. I hated every aspect of...
Read moreThis place was recommended to me to try to satisfy my carne asada fries cravings. After a full day walking around SDCC, this place satisfied my cravings
It’s definitely that old school hole in the wall type place. Small, order the counter with limited indoor seating. Parking can be difficult in the tiny lot and you may have to rely on street parking.
Staff is great, very friendly, accommodating and helpful
We got carne asada fries in small size for $14 which was enough for two meals. Love the skinny fries they use. Good portions of fries, guacamole, sour cream, and of course protein.
Also go chicken enchilada and rolled tacos (forgot to take a picture bc we were hungry.
Rolled tacos were just okay, nothing special. Chicken enchilada was delicious and not overly salty.
Not a fan of their guac, it’s just too runny for my preference. It’s too much like a sauce
Red sauce has a good kick, green sauce has too cilantro for my liking
It’s a good place, would try the tacos next time, but their carne asada...
Read moreGot a carne asada burrito which includes Mexican salsa (pico) and guacamole by default. I added cheese, sour cream and rice (extra charge of about $1-2 for each).
The Good: The burritos are huge and they do not skimp on the meat at alllll. My burrito was absolutely full of carne and it tastes like it marinated prior to cooking—very well-seasoned. I ordered pickup online and it was ready within about 5 minutes. Staff was really friendly.
The Meh: The entire burrito itself was very salty. I had to drench it in the green salsa (absolutely delicious, btw) to mask some of the saltiness. The guac tasted like it was made with old, overripe, browning avocados... There was nothing fresh about it. I can deal with saltiness, but tasting bad avocado throughout your burrito is just gross and disappointing.
Overall, I will try Humberto's again because today could have been an off day and I see totally the potential and why they have so many...
