Overall: The food was SOOO good! It was so filling that when the server came around and we asked for to-go boxes, it looks like we did not eat anything at all. I brought the rest home and it lasted me AND MY PARTNER another 4 meals. It was a quaint place that packed a lot of adventure in their food.
Food:
Injerra: It was great with the food! Awaze tibs: Tender little pieces of meat Collard greens: Not my favorite but it was good Yellow Lentils: SOOO Flavorful! Beets and Potatoes: I didn't think I would like it because it was red looking but it was flavorful but a tinge of sweetness from the beets. I never knew beets could be made to be so delicious. Red Lentils: Flavorful but mostly spicy Sambusa: Was fresh ..too fresh that it burned my tongue haha. It was good though
Location: For a mom and pop restaurant, it was pretty big. However, parking may be hard to find. Side street parking is the only way to go.
Price: For $50 dollars that has lasted me MANY meals, I would say that it is worth it! I've always added it as a side dish with my own cooked vegetables and meat to add a little extra flavors.
Ambience: Unlike other Ethiopian restaurants, i love the extra elements that it contains. The chairs were all unique with faces and this type of table was cool. There were also regular tables too, but this was a fun way for me and my friend to bond over food! I wish I could give it extra stars! It...
Read moreEver had Ethiopian-styled steak tartare? Look no further than Lucy! I took a friend here to try Kitfo for the first time ever and guess what? We DEVOURED everything. Historically, if I'm not mistaken, Kitfo and its raw beef variants (Tere Siga/Gored Gored) were born out of wartime urgency to eat the freshest beef possible and avoid giving away one's position to the enemy because of smoke trails from cooking. Pretty ingenious. And we did eat the Kitfo very urgently. Words can't describe how delicious that dish was. But do expect aromatic clarified butter, ultra-tender chopped beef, pepper, and plenty of injera to go around.
Although they do have a parking lot behind the restaurant, it's often full by the time I arrive. I recommend parking on Marlborough Avenue and walking over here. That shouldn't be too much of a problem, since you'll be greeted by excellent customer service from the moment you enter the restaurant. The servers are very attentive and aren't afraid to make suggestions that would better suit you in that moment.
Overall, a terrific restaurant that I would recommend to anyone, and especially a gem for vegetarians! For the meat lovers out there, definitely order the Gored Gored and Kitfo. It's Ethiopia's national dish alongside Doro Wot...
Read moreI was recommended this restaurant as the best Ethiopian food in San Diego so of course I had to check it out. Four of us had lunch here. There is a small parking lot behind the restaurant and lots of 2 hr street parking spaces.
We ordered the potato and lentil Sambusas. So tasty and had a kick to them. For lunch we ordered the big vegan platter and the meat combo. It was a lot of food but so nice to be able to try all the different dishes. My favorite was the beef with berbere dish. The injera was so spongey and light.
We also tried the honey wine too. It wasn't as sweet as other honey wines so I actually like theirs more.
Service was excellent. We were the only ones there when they opened at noon. This was on a weekday. Another party came later. Hope more people will come because food was excellent and service...
