Olive Cafe — Restaurant in San Diego

Great beach setting but had a very poor experience. We went for breakfast and ordered the breakfast burrito on a gluten free tortilla to share, the tortilla came very highly recommended by the cashier. Paid ahead of time, including a tip, making our one-item meal close to $20 once we paid extra for this GF tortilla. We proceeded to wait at our table for over 30 minutes before the food runner came to tell us that they were out of gluten free tortillas. She offered us some alternatives so we decided to take it as a bowl with tortilla chips. She didn’t offer to refund us for the gluten free tortilla, didn’t offer an apology for the extended wait time, but did tell us that we could go ask for our money back if we wanted. We waited another 10mins for our underwhelming food to be served to us on tiny side plates. Sorry, but it is terrible to make the customer ask for a refund when it was the business who erred, and it is terrible to ask your customers to tip you before you’ve provided the service. Our bad for not switching our order when they told us our original order wasn’t available, but it seemed easier to modify it slightly vs make a whole new order, especially when we were hungry and tired of waiting already....

Do not pre-tip. The service is horrible. I ordered a breakfast burrito and never received my food. People who ordered 15-20 minutes after I did were getting their food. I asked the server walking around (tall with brown hair) if my order was coming out soon and she said she’d go check on it. Never heard from her again and she avoided eye contact with me. About 10 minutes later we went inside to ask someone else about my food, as the person I came with had already received his food and finished eating. They couldn’t tell us what was going on with my order. We asked to get it to go and another 10 minutes later we finally got it and left. I wish I was able to be refunded the 20% tip I gave when I first ordered and paid. I should have been refunded the entire amount. Thankfully I used a credit card to pay and can dispute. A woman at a table next to us had to ask for her food after she never received it too. They need a different system for orders, because this one clearly does not work. The breakfast burrito was...

I order from this place multiple times a month and their food is great and service tends to be also but this most recent visit it was not.

Ordered to go, food wasn't ready by the time website stated, had to ask the person out front multiple questions to find out how much longer so I wasn't taking space on patio. Got the text after she said it wasn't ready. I didn't get any utensils inside the bag, no napkins. Wasn't asked if I wanted any on the side or condiments. I ordered soup..... Kind of need a spoon for that, ordered The Bowl, which is the size of a cup but I guess the only difference is a few ounces so they really are both cups of soup. Doesn't state that on the site. Parmesan cheese on soup was also sad and pointless.
