I booked a jet ski rental online and ran into a few things I wish had been mentioned ahead of time. The website doesn’t say that you can’t take a jet ski into the ocean, but when you arrive and sign the waiver, it states there’s a $150 fine if you do. That’s important information that should be clear before booking. The check-in instructions were also confusing. My rental was at 9:00 a.m., and the email said to arrive 45 minutes early. I showed up at 8:15, but the place didn’t open until 8:50. No reason to be there that early if no one’s around. Once you’re out on the water, you’re basically limited to two separate areas where you can actually ride at speed. Everything else is a no-wake zone, which makes it pretty boring unless you’ve never been on a jet ski before. Even then, it’s fun for about 30 minutes, but after that you’re just wondering what to do next. The booking itself was easy, but the lack of clear information and the limited riding area left the whole experience feeling underwhelming. Some simple updates to the website and clearer instructions would make a big difference.

We rented a “craigcat” here. It was a lot of fun, and the MBSC staff was great. They have tons of stuff for rent - catamarans, sail boats, paddle boards, jet skis and even a jet pack. We opted for the craigcat because there was just two of us, and we were just looking for something fun and relaxing to do. It was a great choice. It was $75 hot one hour. This thing is basically a motorized mini catamaran. You are very close to the water. It supposedly has a top speed of 30 mph, but I have my doubts. But we didn’t care. We just explored the bay at a mellow cruising speed. It was really a lot of fun. The staff was great, and very efficient. The place was EXTREMELY busy, but they got us in and out very quickly.

Some of the best customer service I've ever experienced. We were treated the way the best waiters and waitresses treat their guests. The whole process of renting a sailboat and the hand off between employees was incredible. Each person seemed to know we were coming even though it wasn't scheduled ahead of time. They all smiled, were very cordial, and treated us like they were genuinely invested in our experience. The boat itself was good, clean, and maintained well. Like most of their sailboats, they were already rigged up when we walked down to the dock. Couldn't be happier with our experience.

Mission Bay Sports Center (MBSCenter) is a great place to go and rent whatever you're in the mood to try in the moment. Their prices are fair. I use that word intentionally and can imagine they need some capital to pay their staff *which are great BTW. The only reason they lose a star is that there was a bit of a hold up/miscommunication about what we wanted. We are local and had planned to rent SeaDoo's onsite withOUT a reservation (there is a cancellation penalty if done in advance). So we were "winging' it." We quickly changed our expectations to a speed boat and then ultimately a pontoon with a slide (for an additional $25 fee). We have kids ages 7 & 9 and thought this would be a good idea, however were wrong in that the pontoon was REALLY hard to drive/steer/maneuver with this inflatable slide attached (plus getting it attached we lost valuable sun time we'd planned to be on the water. So we went out maybe 50 yards and decided that the slide wouldn't be for us. Plus we weren't made aware that there was a ladder at the back of the boat prepared for us to (ideally) jump off and climb back onto the boat. In hindsight a small issue but again, when you're ready, fed and gearing to go, every moment counts. We did our best. Got the pontoon adjusted (& were not charged for it) & then once out we had a really nice time. I'd definitely go back to this company specifically for their versatility in choices for water sports and their friendliness. They also lose a star because the women's shower was out of order completely. No sign, just not working and it wasn't until we were ready to shower and prepare for the rest of our sight seeing day that we learned this. We rolled with it, but it was something we'd planned to utilize so we could continue with our "staycation" here in beautiful San Diego. Until...

We Come Every Year, But This Experience Was Frustrating – Will Update

We come to Mission Bay every year and always look forward to the water rentals, but this time was disappointing. We rented a water trampoline and originally planned to keep it for 3 hours. Unfortunately, the wind picked up so much that it wasn’t even enjoyable for the kids—they weren’t using it at all. Less than two hours in, we called to ask if they could come pick it up early and offer a refund or partial credit for the unused hour.

The girl who answered the phone was extremely rude and acted like our request was a major inconvenience, even though they weren’t busy and no one else was waiting for the trampoline. After going back and forth, she finally said no refunds, but they could offer a non-expiring credit—which we were fine with.

When I went up to return a life jacket they forgot to take and to pick up my ID and credit card, I asked again to confirm the credit. Suddenly, she acted unsure and told us we’d have to talk to the manager. Strangely, it was the same girl I had just spoken to on the phone an hour prior. When I asked for the manager’s name and when they’d be available, she was short and dismissive, just saying the manager wasn’t in. She offered no direction, so I had to ask, “Should I call tomorrow? Or what should I do?”

My card had already been charged for the full 3 hours, and had I known we might not get the credit, I would’ve just kept the trampoline for the remaining hour. But they came and picked it up right away, so it’s frustrating to pay for time we didn’t even use.

The equipment itself was great, but the customer service left a really negative impression. I’ll update this review once I’ve spoken to the manager and find out if we’re actually getting the credit we...

DO NOT COME HERE WITH YOUR GROUPON!

THEY WILL TREAT YOU LIKE A CHEAPSTAKE

NO RESERVATIONS ALLOWED WITH GROUPON 😂😂😂😂

THEY HATE GROUPONERS 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

I am saddened to write this letter to you on my holiday. I am the group leader of ten who suggested to the crew that we spend our holiday at mission bay sports center. After hard convincing we finally came to an agreement that it would be a spot that will be well worth it. Our host Mandy stated that we would have to wait 60-90 minutes and so we did. When the time finally came 90 minutes later, she had to give us more bad news. She said only 5 jet ski’s were available out of the nine that we ordered and that we would need to wait an additional fifteen minutes for the remaining jet skis to be available. That fifteen minutes turned into an hour. When our time finally came the guys that were supposed to lead us to our skis vanished which caused another employee to help us out. By this time it has been approximately four hours since arriving at two o’clock. This has caused us disappointment because the weather changed. It was late. We decided not to go anymore and took off our life jackets frustrated and returned to the office. We kindly asked the employee for a compensation because of the inconvenience this has caused us. She didn’t care! I was dissapointed because of her reaction to our situation. “We can make a reservation for you next time”. That was her best effort in customer service. I hope you undestand how my...
