BEWARE!!! If you are looking at Air BnBs in the San Diego area, DO NOT STAY AT A SAN DIEGO SUNSET PROPERTY. I REPEAT, DO NOT STAY AT A SAN DIEGO SUNSET PROPERTY.
A group of friends, and myself, went through h*ll and back when booking with this “company”. Here’s the story: We booked the “FAB Beach House-Sleeps 12, Garage, Parking, Beach!” property listed on AirBnB on York Court in the Pacific Beach area. Our stay was planned to begin on 7/6. ONE DAY prior to the rental on 7/5, San Diego Sunset contacts us stating that we cannot stay at this property due to “construction”. Upon further questioning with Anika, the self proclaimed “property manager” at this circus show, stated that it in fact was not construction, but rather mold remediation. The company completely failed to inform us of this potential hindrance to our stay until 24 hours prior to our check in. Keep in mind, our group is made up of 11 working professionals who had all requested time off and planned multiple other dinner reservations and excursions based upon our stay at this property.
Now, let’s talk about the customer service of this company. Specifically Anika. Let me tell you, this girl could not define “customer service” in a sentence if her life depended on it. When we called San Diego Sunset to resolve the matter, Anika presented an unprofessional attitude and unwillingness to work with us. Her best resolution was to 1) put us in a downgraded AirBnb with less rooms that would not accommodate our large group OR 2) cancel the reservation altogether. Now let’s talk about the latter option. Sneaky Anika attempted to get us to cancel the reservation over the phone with her. Keep in mind, if we would have done this, the responsibility of the cancellation of the stay would have been OUR responsibility and San Diego Sunset would not be held liable for their false advertisement of an inhospitable hovel. When we had asked to speak with the manager, Anika paused for a second, and began talking with a sarcastic tone of voice and stated “HoW cAn I hElP YoU”, after we had spent the past 5 minutes talking through this issue.
If you don’t want to take the time to read through this review, I leave you with this rhyme so you cannot forget the lamentable nature of this company.
San Diego Sunset: Scamming...
Read moreDo not rent long term from this company if you are a college student or beginner renter. They will jump through every loop hole possible to scam you of any dime they can get. Four other friends and I rented their house of Jamaica Court for school this past year. After going through a roommate leaving and no help from them to hold her accountable for her portion of the lease, we knew we were in for a long year.
Sometime in November we were alerted that the upper unit had termites. We evacuated in December for three nights. The rental company returned us two days of rent, but nothing for food or compensation for other accommodations (not in accordance with California law). We had to argue with them that a third daily rate should be returned as started in their previous emails and in accordance with the time we were displaced.
When we delivered rent on the 6th day of the month they tried to fine us $600. Even though our lease started that rental late fee could only go to $300. Additionally, the lease clearly stated that rent grace period was five days within rent being due (five days past the 1st of the month is the 6th). When we highlighted and explained this to them, they allowed it for that month but stated they wouldn’t uphold it later.
Sometime in January our unit began showing terrible signs of a mold problem in the upstairs bathroom. They sent over a neighbor who is their all-in-one plumber, mold man, fixer guy. He informed us that it was not mold but rather “dirty water”. Eventually a legitimate company was brought in and told us our unit had around three feet of mold and ten years worth of neglect. We were offered a more expensive unit to stay in while construction happened, and we would pay the difference. We were not told a timeline on how long our unit would be under construction. It lasted a little over a month and we remained in the unit the entire time. We had to have a verbal sit down meeting with the company and express our concerns and need for compensation, as nothing was offered while living in a mold infested construction site.
When we received our security deposit back we had to explain how many of the items listed were their own fault and not our responsibility to pay. Luckily, We received those...
Read moreThe WORST customer service I have ever received by the OWNER of the company. Do not use this rental company. They do not give a crap about you or your safety. They obviously do not do safety checks. We stayed at the "Beachfront Villa." It looks nothing like the pictures, it was extremely dirty, the garbage disposal was broken, there was a huge cracked mirror in the master bedroom with painters tape on it, not advertised steep tile stairs going from level 2 to level 3(the kitchen was on level 3), 5 broken chairs on the patio, and they have multiple rental agreements with different rules. When we called San Diego sunset rental company to tell them about the broken items/unsafe house they basically said, "sucks for you." They wanted to send a maintenance guy to fix everything while we were staying there. Sounds like a great vacation hanging out with the maintenance guy(who walked in unannounced but was nice enough). They did not offer to let us change houses or a discount. They are so rude, they do not care. They also said it will take them 2 weeks to return the deposit which was not in our written rental agreement. We have no faith or trust in this company and will NEVER use them again. I feel bad for the owners...
