Philz Coffee — Restaurant in San Diego

A pretty chill and relaxed Philz. The Highlands is usually busy, and this Philz is no exception -- it's usually busy, especially around afternoons. Parking is convenient. Sometimes service is slightly slow (up to 10-15m wait) if there are many people, but all the staff are pretty friendly and all wear masks. Very convenient ordering on the app and having your order ready to go!

I like trying the various Philz specialties. While the most classic Philz drink is the mint mojito "the Philz way", there are a variety of other tasty specialties. It's also great how oat milk is the default for many drinks, and they don't charge extra for it. Sometimes there's some variation with the drinks, but the baristas are happy to modify if you ask.

This was my first time visiting. All my classmates kept raving about this place for months, so I decided to make the 20 min drive solely to try this place and try the mint mojito like they suggested. Since, at this point, I was so convinced it would be good I ordered a larger size than I normally would (at over $6). But I was really disappointed. I didn't taste any mint flavor at all. I figured this was just the way the drink was supposed to taste and let it go, but decided not to come back in the future since it wasn't what I wanted/expected. After relaying this info to my classmates, they assured me that it should've been VERY minty. Someone even said that sometimes the first batch isn't made right and you have to ask them to make it again to get it right... Philz is the most consistent coffee joint you'll come across outside of locally brewed Cafes.

So far everyone was very nice and seemed happy to work here at this particular location.

One of the only places I can just drink black coffee if I needed to... I have never tried a drink and not liked it.. If you are looking for an amazing place to enjoy actual coffee and not wild starbucks concoctions that look like playdough, this is the best place by far.

They have a secret menu with variations, but Philz coffee joints do not service or have espresso or latte's like that, just coffee creamer and sugar , but you will find that with simplicity in their menu, comes high quality taste that you won't find anywhere else.

Tip: search for the "secret" menu variations and try those ..well worth...
