I had stopped coming to Pho Anh & Grill for many reasons. Since Covid days, there was not much of a choice and currently, there are no other Vietnamese restaurants in Imperial Beach area. Pho Anh is just a mile down from my home. The food is mediocre, definitely not top shelf. It doesn’t rank high on savor, seasonings, and quality. Don’t get me wrong, the place is not terrible, it does its job. However, if your desperate and don’t feel like driving further out into other areas of San Diego: Chula vista (Broadway 4 miles) or National City (plaza blvd 8miles) or City Heights (El Cajon blvd 12 miles), Kearny Mesa (Linda vista road 16 miles), or Mira Mesa (Mira Mesa blvd 23 miles), then you will never know what you’re missing. Besides better seatings and service, you will never know what other Vietnamese restaurants out there have to offer and more. Why glorify a place if you have nothing else to compare it to.
Trust me, my family, my friends and I, have eaten at Pho Anh mulitiple times (more than I can count) until other Vietnamese restaurants have been discovered. Our taste buds are worth it.
I recommend you give others a try. Who knows, your rating on Pho Anh may differ later.
Side note, my in-laws...
Read moreI've gone here before with no problems, but today was different. I ordered a soup item, and for some reason my soup was smaller than everyone else's in the restaurant. Didn't think much of it, maybe the item I ordered was more expensive. I also ordered a coffee, which is simple a shot of expresso ran through a french press on top of condensed milk and a Thai tea. The tea came with Boba which I didn't order and the final bill was $17.87. Somehow a shot of espresso and a tea cost $7, because the soup itself was only $10.
So not only was my dish smaller than EVERYONE else's in the entire restaurant for no discernable reason, two drinks nearly doubled my bill and I was given something I didn't even order, which I'm sure bumped the bill a bit. And, yes, like some of the other posters have noted, there is NO follow up service and the older servers/employees do not seem friendly whatsoever.
This was one of those, "I'm probably not going to come back" experiences. I'll just make my own from here on out. The food itself was decent, but for nearly $20 at a hole in the wall place in south bay, you would think you would get more than a small bowl of soup...
Read moreINJURED by the end of my experience here! Went in to place a take out order, prices were a bit high but decided to go for it. Customer service was lacking, felt I was treated as a nuisance. (perhaps for not dining in and therefore tipping? Not sure.) Ordered the chicken soup and I received a to go bag; containing a plastic BAG with Mung sprouts and the entire top half of a basil plant, followed by a white box full of cilantro, chicken, & noodles, and a soup container of broth. I have ordered Pho before at other places and was never expected to dump the ingredients into the broth myself! I decide to play along and when the noodles hit the broth, SPLASH the container overfills and BURNS me all over my stomach and legs!! All this with no type of warning or explanation from them, and I didn't think they'd put so much broth in the container that adding the noodles would make it overflow! It's supposed to be noodle soup!! Super messed up experience.....
