Plagued with mushy, bland food and relying on their past glory, Sala Thai has been relegated as sub-par thai food. If this restaurant was to be judged solely on the staff, it would be great. Sweet and courteous is in abundance, too bad the food is the polar opposite. Their curries can be ok, and if you actually eat there in person some of the food can be passable. But if you order to go food, they "f**k you in the drive thru". Shu mai are frozen, they used wonton skin wrappers on the spring roll, omit the shrimp on winter shrimp, use chix broth from a tin or box for their wonton soup and go short on the protein and veg in every dish. We eat with our eyes first and to have fried rice and noodle dishes arrive "naked" with a slight tint of soy sauce and no color anywhere is surprising and a missed opportunity. Eat at your own risk of disappointment, I've wasted enough money in the hopes of a decent meal here. If you want good thai food, eat at Suppanee House of Thai - a true gem. A shame that Sala Thai has gone...
Read moreIf you’re searching for the best Thai food in San Diego, look no further than Sala Thai. This gem of a restaurant offers an exceptional dining experience with dishes that burst with authentic flavors. During my recent visit, I had the pleasure of trying several dishes, and each one was a standout.
The Green Curry was nothing short of perfection—creamy, aromatic, and with just the right amount of spice. The eggplant was tender and soaked up the sauce beautifully, making it a must-try. The Tom Yum soup was another highlight, offering a harmonious balance of sour, spicy, and savory notes that made every spoonful delightful.
For starters, I indulged in the Spicy Noodles, Calamari, and Shrimp Rolls. The Spicy Noodles were packed with bold flavors, and the calamari was cooked to a perfect crispness without being overly greasy. The Shrimp Rolls were fresh and tender, providing a light yet flavorful beginning to the meal.

Read moreThere are lots of good Thai restaurants in San Diego and Sala Thai is one of my favorites. It is a family run restaurant and I often see family members sitting around a table preparing vegetables for the kitchen. The food is fresh and delicious, the service fast, and the prices very reasonable. Their curries are wonderful, the Pad Thai and Pad See Ew delicious. I love the Tom Ka Soup, which is richer than at other restaurants where I have eaten it and often make a meal of that with vegetables in it. Seasonally they have Mango Sticky Rice, which is the perfect dessert for a Thai meal. It's a great place for family and friends to meet for celebrations. There's plenty of parking in the big lot and rarely a wait to sit down. The service is terrific and the owner will often come by your table to ask if everything is okay. She...
