A friend of mine is a longtime San Diego-based barista and a diehard coffee nerd, so when she recommended Scrimshaw there was really only one thing to do. It took me a minute to find the place because I could not believe it was in that neck o' the woods. It is sandwiched between a neat furniture store and something like a tax preparer's office. So there's street parking up front and there is a number of spaces in the parking lot in the back. I walk in the front door and am immediately struck by the simple beauty of the place. The menu is painted on the wall. Fun! I ordered a cappuccino, and the guy taking my order was totally willing to strike up a conversation. He seemed like a very friendly person and it turned out the guy taking my order is one of the owners. Before we got tired of talking, the barista brought over my capp. The art was top notch, the milk was amazing, the espresso was good, and she was wearing fun spectacles. Scrimshaw has it going on.
