Sombrero Mexican Food — Restaurant in San Diego

I decided to try this place out last night (around midnight) because it was open late and I’m certainly glad I did! My whole experience was fantastic and I cannot recommend it enough. I ordered a chili relleno burrito, regular size, and was rung up by an employee named Juanita B. who remained extremely friendly and cheerful despite working at midnight. I asked for my burrito to be made extra spicy which she happily complied with (other restaurants will not do this). Drinks are a bit expensive so I did not get one (I might have if I was eating in and could get refills). The burrito was made quickly. Juanita also gave me a couple extra sauces to try which I really appreciate. When I got home to eat it I was very impressed with the size; it was more food than I had initially thought I would get. Even the regular size was one of the largest burritos I have ever ordered. It was also “wet” meaning the exterior was “sauced up” and I had to use a fork and knife; I did not anticipate this but I didn’t mind it (just keep in mind that the default for a burrito is a “wet” burrito). It also came with chips which was an added bonus; the burrito plus chips cost around $12. Even though the burrito was made to be extra spicy I did not find this to be the case; I think maybe adding a spicier sauce or perhaps a hotter pepper to it could do the trick (if enough demand is there). Love Sombreros you can always count on friendly service, good food and big portions! I absolutely love the Fiesta Meal and it is on again right now! I haven't been to this location in a long time, it has a bit challenging parking and the drive thru is kind of cramped not super easy to get to especially when there are gigantic semi trailer trucks parked blocking half the parking lot and obscuring the drive thru lane!! I managed to find a parking spot and went inside to order and pickup my lunch.

Very well kept and clean inside, plenty of staff to serve and everyone was friendly.

Food was Excellent of course, everything fresh hot and delicious on top of that I was really hungry so it tasted even better!

I don't come over to this area as often as I used to I used to go to the Vandever Kaiser clinic a lot but not really any more I have a different clinic closer to where I live now occasionally go to the big Kaiser hospital on Zion that's close by so next appointment there i will probably hit up this Sombrero again 😁 I like the way they season the beans here - not too heavy on the cumin and the chicken tacos are THE BOMB - they are chock full, stuffed with White meat chicken breast like an entire chicken breast shredded in each taco with fresh shredded lettuce and fresh grated cheddar and the red taco sauce - perfection!!...

UPDATE** foolishly went back a second time and let them know they had forgotten the Salsa Fresco on my last visit and they reassured me they would include it this time. They didn't....In fact, they got my order wrong and still did not give me the Salsa Fresco though I asked for it several times. I opened the order in front of my son and a nurse at the hospital and there were only 4 rolled tacos. I had ordered 6. When I called to complain the manager said she reviewed the tape and there 6 rolled tacos in the box. She claimed she saw the film personally, basically, calling me a liar.,.. Worst customer service ever!!!!!!! Fortunately the corporate office was very apologetic and sent me two free dinners - however I will now have to find another Sombreros because I will never do business with that one again. BUYER BEWARE!!!!!
