Starry Lane Bakery — Restaurant in San Diego

Hands down the best allergy friendly bakery in all of San Diego (possibly the entire US as well- I’ve tried a few different bakeries in different places and so far Starry Lane always wins). I LOVE that a place like this exists and has given those of us with severe food sensitives and allergies a safe place to order delicious baked items without worry or fear.

Before I found Starry Lane Bakery, I had not had a cupcake, a brownie, a cookie, a slice of bread or anything even remotely resembling a baked good for YEARS. I ate the same few foods everyday and truly believed I would never have another baked good in my life. When I first looked up Starry Lane, I cried. SOBBED. UGLY CRIED. And when I walked in and saw all of the options? My brain almost exploded. Because not only is this bakery gluten free, they are top 8 allergy free. And that’s what I needed. For those of you who may not have food sensitivities or allergies, let me tell you: this is incredibly rare and often times, hard to find. It’s even harder to find a bakery that does this well.

At this point I’ve been coming to Starry Lane Bakery for almost 4 years. I’ve slowly worked my way through my menu; I’ve carefully tried almost everything they have to offer. And my verdict? Everything is delicious. Yes, I will always choose a chocolate cupcake over a lemon raspberry torte but the torte is still delicious. And safe. The staff is amazing, and always has time to carefully explain and go over any questions I may have. And more importantly, they are protective of the bakery and ensuring it is allergy safe. They keep a close eye on all individuals who enter and make sure they are not bringing in outside food or beverages that may contaminate the bakery and put the workers or customers at risk. And because I’ve seen one too many reviews of individuals who cannot comprehend this simple, basic concept and feel that they are entitled to do whatever they they want: the bakery itself has around a dozen signs all explaining you CANNOT bring outside into the bakery before you even step foot inside.

In short: Starry Lane Bakery is the best. Their baked good are always delicious, they are proud of and always helping their local community and giving those with food...

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Starry Lane Bakery! Jaime and BobbyJo, who are some of the sweetest, kindest, and most amazing people you’ll ever meet, are just so awesome! Their positive energy fills the entire space, and you can truly feel the love and care they put into everything they do.

The fact that everything here is completely free of the top 10 allergens is nothing short of incredible. It’s so rare to find a bakery that is completely safe for those with food sensitivities, yet still delivers on flavor, texture, and pure deliciousness. Every bite is a testament to their dedication to quality and inclusivity, making it possible for everyone—regardless of dietary restrictions—to indulge in truly delightful treats.

One of my absolute favorites is their tortes—oh my goodness, they are just perfect! The balance of sweetness is spot on—not too sugary, just rich, flavorful, and deeply satisfying. You can taste the thoughtfulness behind every ingredient, and the texture is absolutely divine. Whether it’s for a personal treat, a special occasion, or a thoughtful gift, their desserts never disappoint.

I’m beyond grateful to have found Starry Lane Bakery and to have met such wonderful people as Jaime and BobbyJo. Their kindness, passion, and talent shine through in every aspect of this bakery, from the food to the atmosphere. If you’re looking for incredible baked goods made with love and care, this is the place to be! I’ll definitely be back again and again. Update 2022: We have unfortunately decided we won't ever be returning to Starry Lane. After signing up for their "Rewards Program" we were continuously over-charged when we chose to use our points for discounts on our orders because the staff didn't understand how their own rewards system operated. When we ordered custom cupcakes, they again charged us the full amount instead of using our rewards points per requested. When the amount did not go through, because it was not the amount we had approved, they chose not to make the 2, may I repeat TWO (2) cupcakes that we had specially ordered. This was all because they over-charged the wrong amount instead of using the rewards points which they promised to use. My event was a great disappointment, and worst of all, they couldn't care less. I can't support a business that refuses to take ownership of their mistakes, and has no sense of loyalty to their customers.

It's sad and embarrassing to see the owner's long winded, and sassy responses to people's bad experiences on Google rather than taking it into account and making personal adjustments. I am also sad that my interactions with Starry Lane are now over, but I wish them all the best.

2021 Review: I wish you could give 10 stars. When starry lane isn’t open we don’t eat desserts it’s a simple as that. Nothing else compares to their amazing flavors and textures. This is the best bakery, not just allergen friendly bakery, but best bakery period. Please come back...
