The food here is excellent, BUT dining here during covid times made me uneasy. We chose to sit outside for better airflow and they did limit seating on their patio. However, this area is frequented by a transient population that walks around on the streets shouting at diners and getting in people's faces without wearing masks. Not much anyone can do about it unfortunately. Luckily we chose a table away from the railing so we didn't have to deal with any possible maskless carrier in our face, but others weren't as fortunate.
The restaurant doesn't offer a contactless menu and prompt people to pull their menu off of a QR code and instead handed out photocopies of their wine list, specials, and menus. They have a website and should simply update their menus on their site if they don't utilize QR services so diners can be prompted to view their menu online and avoid touching menus that have been passed through who knows how many hands. I run paranoid and disinfect my hands after handling anything, but it only takes one unbeknownst diner who isn't as OCD as I am to pick up the virus and pass it onto more unsuspecting people. I had looked at their menu online prior to coming here, but there were a lot of things on their photocopies that were not on their website.
I also did not witness them thoroughly wipe down tables and chairs with disinfectants after guests left as I have seen at other restaurants. I carry my own disinfecting wipes and wiped down myself, but most won't take this measure and trust the restaurant to thoroughly disinfect tables and chairs for them.
Lastly the wait staff did wear masks, but like so many people I've seen, their nose was exposed which completely defeats the purpose of wearing one if they have a sneeze attack and are asymptomatic carriers. Makes me wonder about the kitchen staff here and if people are wearing masks properly. It just takes one asymptomatic carrier to infect countless others. With cases on the rise in California we need to see better efforts from everyone to keep everyone safe.
I hope management here steps up and addresses these things to safeguard staff and diners during covid times. Their food is incredible and should not be missed. If you choose to dine here I suggest you come prepared to try to protect yourself and others. I'm currently torn about whether to come again any time soon. I would like to give them another chance and hopefully be able to report positive findings, but I don't go out often during covid times, it's hard to justify going to a place that made me uneasy during...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I come here every week, it's awesome. Here's why.. -No words such as "handcrafted, "handbuilt", "chefcrafted", or "artisanal" exist anywhere on the walls or on the menu. If an establishment's character is carved out of these words it will be self-evident in the quality of the meal - NOT written all over the fing walls along with some other inspirational sh that doesn't need to be there. -price is awesome from front to back of the menu -food is very delicious, they have great salads and the pizza in particular holds its own against any you could experience in all of SD. -they don't distract you by putting up a Fing TV or having the volume higher than it should be which makes the smaller, cozy space feel very relaxed and intimate. -the servers are AWESOME. Giuseppe, our usual server is a bad mother fer. I like that fact that some of them sound like they just learned basic english 3 months ago and it's hard to understand them speak through their thick Italian accent. I've been here when a little Mexican cat served almost the whole restaurant by himself! This mother fer was like Nightcrawler from X-men getting sh** done.
In short, it doesn't matter if this place is a Chinese, Italian, or Lebanese joint. As a restaurant experience from top to bottom it's where you want go to get away from all these new, hip spots. Just serve me good food, send it out hot, don't be overly nice and attentive so it's annoying, dim the lights a little and keep your restrooms stocked on toilet paper. Arrivederci's (La Pizzeria) does all of...
Read moreI’m sure that this restaurant has some stellar offerings. Unfortunately, my pasta dish tonight was just so bad I can’t go higher than 3-stars.
Our bruschetta starter was fresh and tasty with a surprise pesto layer that some purists may object to, but I certainly wouldn’t. I would object to the long strands of carrot shavings on the plate that were of no redeeming value.
My dinner companions pasta was also pesto flavored with chicken, mushrooms, and sun dried tomato. It was served piping hot with plenty of sauce. Again, a tasty dish.
My pasta was to be lobster-stuffed ravioli in a saffron-cream sauce. Sounds incredible, right? The plate arrived and was the most unsettling yellow. Yellow everywhere with virtually no other color present. This was particularly off-putting as it was to be a cream sauce...white last time I checked under a cow. What is more, there were six ravioli, not necessarily oversized and certainly not overstuffed drowning in the conspicuously yellow sauce. Turns out, the menu should have called it a hollandaise sauce, not a cream, for that is exactly what it was. Rather than a decadent lobster pasta, I was served a liquid Eggs Benedict. The straw that pushed this humpty-dumpty egg dish off the wall was that it was lukewarm. Please re-evaluate this dish!
One last note: both dishes were sprinkled with carrot shavings. Why?
I won’t say to avoid this restaurant, but order carefully. I won’t be back...
