The staff welcomed me with genuine smiles and attentiveness, showcasing their commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction from the get-go. Their recommendations were spot-on, guiding me through a menu brimming with innovative creations and classic favorites, all crafted with the freshest, highest-quality ingredients.
The dinner commenced with an array of appetizers that were both visually stunning and bursting with flavor, setting the stage for the culinary masterpiece that was to unfold. Each dish was a testament to the chef's artistry and passion for food, perfectly balanced and infused with unique combinations of flavors that danced on the palate. The main course was a revelation, with each bite more delightful than the last, embodying the essence of fine dining.
However, it was the dessert that truly stole the show. Chocola at Hillcrest has rightfully earned its reputation for crafting some of the most exquisite desserts imaginable, and my experience was no exception. The dessert menu was a masterpiece of creativity, with each option more tempting than the last. I indulged in a creation that was not only a feast for the eyes but an explosion of flavors that lingered long after the last bite, leaving me in awe of the culinary wizardry at Chocola.
Beyond the extraordinary food, it was the customer service that truly set Chocola at Hillcrest apart. The staff went above and beyond to ensure that every aspect of the dining experience was perfect. Read moreRare 5/5 for what I'd characterize as leaning to French cuisine and bakery. First large glass of fresh squeezed orange juice with pulp, sweetness and thick texture all (so a pleasant surprise not like another restaurant not soon after the complete bitter, tart, flat, watery opposite). Ok maybe the second time in my life for crepes and was asked how I wanted the eggs cooked (I thought scrambled for crepes was the only option) plus a proper amount of gooey chewy slighly sweet (but not Wisconsin fresh chew squeaky) cheese yum. The right size food portion with sufficiently thin wrapper (you will like it Ricky Bobby). Other food was iron skillet omelette with chicken and mushroom- huge portion.
We viewed the bakery display but did not partake.
So we came for brunch and the place was getting busier as our stay progressed. Later that day drove by dinner time and significantly busier.
Now the place is located in youth popular Hillcrest not too far from U of San Diego and other establishments targeting that market and yuppiedom. This place is a bit eclectic for the bulk of them but is clearly serving a niche beyond the traditional pub so an anomaly and complements the area variety well. I would normally see a restaurant as this in/near a fashion mall but the foot traffic here is probably better and broader appeal.
The service was polite and professional which for this cuisine and customer base as expected. There was a family including toddler so the restaurant can accommodare a customer age range, not just adults.

Read moreTwo days on a raw I am having breakfast at this local bistro called Chocolat. What a lovely name. And great on a spot. This is a winner. First time I have ordered crape with portobello mushrooms and Grier cheese. It was classy French size ( very large) crape done to perfection not too greasy, with the lace of the golden spots soft and crispy at the same time. Hhe quality product uses is aplaudable. Mushrooms were thinly sliced, cooked to perfecton and cheese was superb tangy and not too salty. I like a lot of sauce should ask for porchini mushroom sauce they have in stock. My almond milk cafe au late was aromatic smooth and hot with the beautiful cream painting on top. Second time today I just ordered regular coffee small pot and savory crape with veal buloniese and Beshamel ( spelling!) sauce. That one was sooo good. Meat staffed the perfect crape like velvet tomato and touch of a cream sauce remind me my time in Paris. My crape boloniese was much better !!! PWill recommend to come Thursday’s for breakfast not too many people and the staff is super accommodating and friendly. I will come back and try little by little their famous ice cream, desert, cressaunts, eggs, cheeses, pizzas, panini soups and chocolate ravioli and whatever they have on a lovely...
