Stella Jean's Ice Cream Kensington — Restaurant in San Diego

I went to Stella Jean’s after seeing a TikTok video about it, and I will be honest. I like ice cream, but I am not a big big fan of it. I have to be in the mood. But I had heard so many good things about this place that I had to give it a try.

And wow. This is the best ice cream I have ever had. You can actually taste the toasted marshmallows in the s’mores flavor. Usually when I eat ice cream, I get halfway through and think ok, that was enough, and toss the rest. Not this time. I ate the whole thing and was honestly upset I did not get two scoops.

Me and my best friend (she is also leaving a review) wanted to check out a shop in the area that was not as fancy or over the top as some other places like An’s. Stella Jean’s hit the spot. We saw the s’mores flavor in the video and had to try it. We both got a scoop on a waffle cone. The cone was great and the ice cream was even better.

Also want to say, the shop itself is a cool little spot. It was very clean inside and everything was well organized. The guy helping us had great service, very friendly and helpful. So from customer service to the vibe of the shop to the ice cream itself, everything was really good.

Now that the weather is warming up, I will definitely be back. If you’re in the area and want really good ice cream without all the super crazy flavors or pretentious vibe, Stella Jean’s...

We stopped by the new Stella Jean in Kensington on a Tuesday at around 8 pm. There is only street parking but we were able to find a spot right out front. The shop wasn't too busy and there is some indoor seating. The ice cream menu here is similar to other Stella Jean locations except I believe this is the only location that offers ice cream cookie sandwiches. You can do an open faced cookie sandwich (1 cookie and 1 kids ice cream scoop) or a full cookie sandwich (2 cookies and 1 kids ice cream scoop). There are 6 cookie flavors to pick from: chocolate chip walnut, butter cake, oatmeal golden raisin, blueberry pancakes, double chocolate (I think this is gluten free), and miso snickerdoodle. They have suggested cookie and ice cream pairings as well and I tried an open faced cookie sandwich with a butter cake cookie and ube ice cream. I really enjoyed having the cookie with the ube ice cream. The cookie was really buttery and it added some nice texture and crunch to the ice cream. Very spontaneous ice cream around here because we have a friend who lives in this neighborhood and had good things to say.

Not going to lie, the flavors were really extremely creative! Some of the Asian flavors there, especially. Ube Pandesal Toffee - absolutely delicious flavor and had that buttery vibe going on as well. Probably my second favorite among everything I tried.

S’mores - I usually always a lot of smells ice cream or somehow this one just did not hit. It was also like a charcoal flavor to it, but that isn't usually a problem. I'm not sure what was up here but not the best.

Strawberry Basque Cheesecake - very unique flavor here! And very good as well. It's like a strawberry cheesecake with a little fancyness. Husband picked this flavor.
