I recently had an infuriating experience at Tango Del Rey, an establishment that lacks compassion and understanding. As someone with type one diabetes, I rely on immediate access to liquids, like juice, when my blood sugar levels drop dangerously low. Unfortunately, this establishment's "no outside liquids" policy disregards the needs of individuals with health conditions like mine.
Upon arrival, my friends and I tried explaining my situation to the staff, hoping for a little understanding and accommodation to bring juice boxes inside, as dance can get very physical and cause low blood sugar. Instead, I was met with a cold, unwelcoming attitude, an unwillingness to listen, and extreme defensive behavior.
While I understand the importance of certain policies to maintain cleanliness and safety , there are countless establishments/clubs I've been to throughout San Diego that have successfully managed this delicate balance, recognizing the importance of accommodating their customers' health needs while maintaining their standards.
The lack of empathy demonstrated by the staff here is disheartening and I will be filing a discrimination complaint with ADA as well as seeking legal advice on how to proceed. Clearly this establishment does not realize it's discriminatory to prohibit or exclude disabled people or allow them to be denied access to their supplies. They told me I could instead buy drinks inside or use insulin (clearly no understanding of how diabetes or low blood sugar works)
It's appalling to think that they prioritize a rigid policy over the well-being of their customers. It is not an exaggeration to say that by denying me access to carry in my juice for low blood sugar, they put my health and potentially my life at risk.
I urge anyone with a medical condition or anyone who values understanding and compassion to think twice before visiting this place. It's evident that they care more about their rules than the well-being of their customers.
I hope they reevaluate policies and train staff to treat customers with respect and understanding. Until then, I strongly advise against patronizing this heartless establishment that lacks empathy for individuals with...
Read moreHave come here a couple of times to dance only. The atmosphere is fine. The structure they have for bringing instructors is solid. However, they have a really rude bartender. If tap water is not provided, they should put a clearly visible sign instead of having people be outright ignored at the bar. I was standing at the bar waiting to be addressed by the bartender since she was finishing up with the only other person at the bar at the time when someone else came right as she was finishing up. She addressed them first. I thought that maybe she had missed me somehow, even though I was the only person not being attended to right before this person. Then I waited for her to tend to them, and then another person came and the same thing happened. I noticed that the common denominator was that I was not holding money in my hand. After this person, I asked if they gave tap water and she said no. Could have definitely addressed my 10 second question before those two people. Definitely not a great way to possibly get a tip in the future. This experience absolutely taints my perspective on this place. It makes me feel...
Read moreIve been coming here for years...a great place for salsa/bachata. The dance lessons are the best in San Diego and taught from one of the best instructors you could ask for. The downstairs dance floor is nice and spacious and they have another quaint one upstairs. Why the low rating of stars? Well, to start...the new Dj doesn’t have the greatest transitions or play the best songs for salsa dancing...then they started to be sexist with the waters...only giving free water cups to the men and not women. Then, they started charging for small waters 2-3$. They are too frugal to turn on the A/C to a proper temperature and so you’re basically forced to buy a water there because it’s so hot in the place and there’s not enough cool air flow.
Most recently what drove me to write this review was when I was charged for water and the bartender secretly added a large tip for himself that I did NOT agree to. Disputing with my credit card company and want to give you a warning now that if you come here, to save your receipts from the bar and check your statements as you might be improperly swindled and...
