Driving from Arizona from the I-8, the hotel was super easy to find...we got off I-8 at exit 2 and drove down just a few blocks to the entrance off Mission Bay! Parking is great...spots both inside a small garage and outside the entrance, with the closest spots to the door being for electric cars (many!) and handicap. The hotel is surrounded by homes and apartment buildings.
First impressions were great. The hotel is obviously newer and very modern and clean. Our check in at the front desk was smooth and the worker was great asking which floor I preferred! She did tell us our room was one direction but it ended up being the opposite side....tis ok. She apologized. :) The lobby is quaint with everything you need right there...snacks, bathroom, etc. The pool is also right off the lobby (outdoor). The carpet in the halls was plush which made for a bit of strength to pull our luggage cart but felt great under our feet.
We were in room 127 which is at the end of the very short hall and only 3 doors away from a back entrance of the breakfast area. We loved being at the end of the hall. The room windows face directly onto Mission Bay Rd which is a very heavily traveled road all day/night, so light sleepers should request to be on the opposite side of the hotel if noise from the road bothers them. Also, you can hear every step taken in the room just above...sounds like a herd of elephants...so again, light sleepers might prefer to be on the top floor to avoid as much noise as possible. My husband and I have no issues sleeping through noise, though.
The room was so spacious! Felt like there was alot of room between the end of the bed and the desk area where I am typing this now. The desk is like a long table sitting under the large screen tv and has a nice desk lamp on it. On either side of the desk/table are luggage stands. One of the luggage stands is padded with no drawers under it which makes for a nice extra seat if you don't have a suitcase. The other luggage stand was hard top with 2 drawers under it which could serve as a little coffee table or another seat. We had 2 queen beds and they were incredibly comfortable...just enough plush, not too hard, not too soft, with a variety of pillows on the bed of different firmness. We loved the room itself.
The bathroom was so nice...modern, VERY large, the toilet semi-hidden behind a half wall to hide your tush if someone else is in the room using the double sinks. The shower was a large walk-in shower with all glass door/wall. It had a corner shelf to store your personal items, as well as shampoo, conditioner, and body soap mounted to the wall. I loved those items...smelt great, and were good quality. However...my first complaint...the water pressure was not great.
The room also has a small microwave and a mini-fridge, some shelving, and a tiny little closet for hanging stuff up. It also had a pretty cool corner area with a hook to hang bags or jackets. There is a full length mirror. You have to use your key card to turn lights on/off.
We loved our incredibly short walk (20 steps?) to breakfast, but were disappointed with the food. The waffle was great - same mix that Disney uses for their famous Mickey Waffles. The scrambled eggs & turkey sausage were cold. They had a jalapeno souffle muffin as an option that had a good taste but was very dry. They had english muffins and bagels, but no bread slices. They had one flavor of jelly (grape). They had oatmeal, 3 types of cereal (corn flakes and 2 others), a plain yogurt, and small cartons of milk. They had orange juice and one other kind (sorry, slipped my memory). For fruit options, they had bananas. Overall, the selection was actually quite limited compared to other hotels I've stayed at, but sufficient. They had a menu of what is served each day of the week on the wall, so they do rotate every couple of days.
We loved the location & nearby amenities. Straight down the road from the beach! And free parking and no resort fees. This one is a solid 4 and great option for budget...
Read moreArrived to the hotel around 7 PM with my elderly mother. At that time, I was told there was one room left although we had reservations because they were overbooked. Total chaos. We were put in a room near the road and told that this would be for one night as previously stated they were overbooked. Also, upon arrival once we settled in, we realize that the toilet did not work. So we were given the code to the downstairs restroom in the entrance to use. They said that I would have to speak to someone in the morning. After driving 12 hours and not sleeping the night before I was experiencing total sleep deprivation. Called the front desk in the morning and explain the situation to Tiffany. The customer service rep that provided no customer service. Although I was frustrated, I still treated her with respect But at one point early in the conversation, she said I was being hostile and was going to hang up on me. Then asked for a manager and was told Sasha the property manager doesn’t work weekends nor can she be bothered. No recourse whatsoever. After speaking to corporate, everything was settled, and because it was fixed for the customer, both Tiffany and Sasha did not approve of that and in the end canceled my reservation, Leaving my elderly mom who is handicap and myself with nowhere to stay. Not because Marriott canceled it, but because and Tiffany, who are at the property, decided to take it upon themselves to cancel it. But this only occurred after I brought up the toilet, not working. As my mom and I were getting ready to leave, the maintenance man stopped me in the hallway and I said to him please go ahead and do what you need to do in my room will be gone for two hours. He insisted on going and showing me how to correctly flush the toilet. And upon demonstrating he could say that the toilet was indeed broken So alike, Tiffany, the receptionist at the hotel he became very frustrated and twice in a small space i.e. the bathroom he brushed me. After I had explained to the maintenance man that I did not want to be in the same room with a gentleman that I didn’t know. After the experience, I called him upon it and he stated there’s cameras all over the place and I said, but there’s no cameras in my room and that was inappropriate. As I said, there Was nothing but pure chaos you could stand at the front desk for 20 minutes and there would be no one there. Having to call the police. But that’s not the end they took it one step further and told the police officer that I could be suffering from mental illness, which is something you absolutely do not fabricate in a situation like that that involves the police department and mental health.
If this was my hotel and I was the property manager, whether I had the day off or not, I would be there to one provide good customer service and to support my team. Sasha was nowhere to be found, and it was clear that she was OK with how her employees conducted themselves in an inappropriate manner. Do yourself a favor and stay at the courtyard in old town. Great customer service they have a manager on duty on the weekdays and the weekends we were greeted with a smile opposite from the other location. Definitely...
Read moreWhere do I where do I begin with this Ridiculous hotel and the management. We try to check into this hotel on Father’s Day weekend my husband and his brother rented conjoining rooms at the hotel. We rented these rooms because we both have young kids age ( 1,3 and 4 ) and we’re celebrating Father’s Day together. We arrive before my brother-in-law and we decided to check into our room, fortunately they had our room ready but not my brother-in-law’s, Which is fine because early check in is a “courtesy” and the other conjoining room wasn’t to be ready until after 4 PM which was the original check in time. We spend the day at the fair I don’t arrive back in to the hotel till 6 PM at which point we are told the conjoining room was never cleaned and is not ready. They asked us if we like another room. “ ummm no because we booked conjoining rooms” well we don’t have any .??? And Well unfortunately they have no staff on site to clean the dirty room ?? and they don’t have any management that can do anything to help us on site either???. We were then told to call corporate if we wanted a refund or want it any other help because there was nothing that they could do at this point even though it was only 6pm On a Saturday evening. We send an email to Corporate Marriott, which we didn’t get no immediate response from . Now we have our brother-in-law come up to the room with his kids, in the meantime we see cleaning staff ( which we were told were none were even on site) Starting to clean the attached conjoining room. We had dinner reservations at 8 PM and the room still wasn’t ready so we left for dinner and when we came back at 10 PM the conjoining room was finally ready. After spending 1/2 the day and getting in a hotel room together. And getting in the actual room after 10pm we were offered nothing for such a inconvenience and a partial stay . I followed up with Corporate as I was told and corporate Resolution center said there was nothing that they could do as far as refunding or comping us for a future stay, that they could file a claim and the hotel is responsible for that. We were sent an email with a 10% off refund, which is unacceptable. The management and customer service here is awful . I will simply never stay at a Marriott again this is a worldwide corporation and you run your business this way ? Can’t give us the rooms we booked and paid for then give us a room at 10pm with 2 children ? And you offer a 10% refund .? After spending 700 dollars for 1 night stay . Absolutely unacceptable! Don’t stay here if you have any problems they will never get resolved or refunded and management is...
