I keep trying to give this new version of the former Grub Restaurant a shot, but it's falling short every visit.
Before I dive into specifics, the service every visit has been extremely friendly. Always a hello, a smile, and very quick delivery of basic things we've asked for like napkins and utensils. 5 stars for that!
Here's the stuff I'd love to see improved to make it worth visiting again...
The shrimp ceviche (which I order regularly) is maybe 1/3 the portion of shrimp and tortilla chips as what Grub offered for the same price. The portion for the price is ridiculously small. Ordered it today, and it was mainly tails and scraps...where's the actual shrimp?
No paper towels/napkins on the tables, so if you need one before your food arrives for a spilled beverage or to wipe your table, you need to walk back to the register and ask. Grub had convenient rolls of paper towels on each table which come in handy with this kind of food. Everything feels skimpy here. Yet prices are similar if not more expensive.
Alas offering iced tea, awesome....but, it's my 3rd visit under new ownership & this standard beverage is just now available.
The last 2 visits when food was brought to the table, we had to ask for utensils and napkins. Same thing happened today. How would I eat something like shrimp ceviche without a fork/spoon?
Did I mention dirty, sticky tables even as I write this review? I see 4 dirty tables within my immediate view with food on the tables or seats.
Let's talk rewards points...Can only apply points earned from purchases by downloading The Stand app...tbh, I don't need another app on my phone. With Grub, I was able to simply enter my phone number in the credit card terminal and points were applied to my purchase...super easy and customer-centric system.
Ironic thing as I write this review...I just pulled a sizeable shrimp shell from my shrimp ceviche as I type. No idea where the actual sizeable piece of shrimp ended up (definitely not in my order).
I stopped in the ladies room before leaving and hopped over a stream of urine on the floor in the larger stall. Then no paper towels. Had to visit the register and ask for napkins to wipe my hands. Sidenote: The soap dispenser in the ladies room is kind of buried on the other side of the paper towel dispenser with little room to access it...would be great if it were mounted somewhere easy to access, especially when there's more than one person in the restroom.
I never write poor reviews (it actually feels uncomfortable even typing this, but every time I'm here something's worse than the last visit). My hope is the new ownership reads this and will reassess some things. After all, it's not even dinner hour and this was my experience.
We used to frequent Grub regularly, but The Stand is becoming a total...
Read moreMy family visited for the first time on Sunday, July 13. Almost all the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. The two ladies taking our order spent a great deal of time helping us decide what to order. The guys that brought our food were incredibly kind, bringing us cutlery, napkins, salt, and pepper. The food was surprisingly tasty. It's not often that a restaurant has good food, decent prices, and excellent service these days, in my opinion. However, there was an upsetting incident that caused me to only give 4 stars. We sat in the patio area, and it was late afternoon/early evening. The sun was directly in my eyes, so we asked one of the servers to lower the shade for us. He kindly did. The bartender made a point to loudly ask another worker to raise it back up. As he came over to do so, we explained that we'd asked to lower it because the sun was in our eyes. He left it as it was. The bartender made a big point to come over and raise it back up, saying that everyone was hot and it needed to be up. We told her the sun was in our eyes. She raised it anyway. I changed seats and put my sunglasses on to finish the meal. My family and I feel that her behavior was very unprofessional and rude. We all had the feeling that it really wasn't about the shade being up or down or about anyone being hot (as silly as that may sound). She definitely made our experience a negative one. All the other staff were amazing. I would recommend...
Read moreI just had a burger and fries and it was very good. I am giving this place five stars despite and “interesting“ interaction with the employee that took my order. As I said, the food was great so I will definitely be back.
Regarding the person that took my order. She was definitely not rude, but not overly friendly either. I had a few questions since it was my first time here. First question was. If the burger was good, or if she recommended anything else. She said I am vegan, so I wouldn’t know. OK, that’s not illegal, but I did mention that it must be interesting working in a burger/sandwich shop being a vegan. Next she mentioned that there are no dipping sauces on the table. I said, I don’t need dipping sauce, just ketchup. She said there’s no ketchup on the table. I said, OK, then I’ll take ketchup with my order. I asked her why they don’t put ketchup on the tables, and she said “I don’t know.” Lastly, I asked for my receipt. Just at that moment, she crumbled it up and threw it in the trashcan. She gladly printed me up another copy. The interaction was actually quite humorous on my end, although I think she was mildly irritated. Nothing here to keep me from coming back. Just general observations. Pretty good food good atmosphere, and the restaurant was pretty busy at 3 o’clock in the afternoon so that should be a good sign. Definitely way better than the restaurant that was...
