I was told this place was wonderful. I didn't find it to be. Like all restaurants in California now, the food prices were exorbitant with salads and sandwiches running around $15 and dinner plates averaging around $25-$30. These were before tax and tip prices. I will say the service was excellent. I ordered a souvlaki salad. There was a lot of salad with fresh lettuce, but the salad was watery-tasting. I know there was feta grated in it and somewhat in chunks, but it was pretty tasteless. The tzatsiki sauce that served as dressing didn't have much taste either. The souvlaki was overcooked and on the dry side. The rice, which they happily substituted for pita for me (I'm gluten free) was flat-out terrible. Unlike most of the other food that was fairly tasteless, they put something in the rice, but it tasted terrible. I might have eaten four small bites. Additionally, the restaurant environment was cute, but uncomfortable. I have to use forearm crutches or two canes, and there weren't a lot of good choices for me to sit, partly because the tables are so close to each other. Finally, don't go to ANY of the restaurants in this plaza if you are handicapped. There were only two handicapped parking spaces set at one end and around a bend from this restaurant. I had to walk a ways (for a handicapped person). All the rest of the spaces were 30 min parking only. It was that way along all the sides (or lanes?) of this plaza. I'm going to find out if this is even legal. It's certainly not hospitable. I will not go back to Greek Corner Cafe because the food was blah and the prices were outrageous, but I will not go back to this plaza at all because it was unmanageable for me as a handicapped person. To be fair, I've pretty much stopped eating out in California because of the outrageous prices, and these prices were similar to what I've found lately when I ventured into a couple of restaurants due to circumstances. However, high food prices don't mean you can't serve...
Read moreGREEK CORNER CAFE is as ignominiously named as its location â this wonderfully traditional FIVE-STAR Google Gourmet Greek Restaurant is literally tucked almost invisibly in to a corner of The Carmel Mountain Shopping Center. You will have to want to find it, to find it. âGourmet?â Youâbetâcha! Iâm an emotional eater and every bite was savory; when was the last time that you experienced That!? After 30-years there is a dedicated neighborhood following; someone at a nearby table proudly announced to her guests that âEverything is good here!â, with which I heartily agree. During my first visit I almost ordered my usual appetizer, Hummus; but something else on the menu caught my eyeâ Tarmasalata, âa rich and creamy spread made with red caviar- served with Greek olives and warm (fresh!) pita. A Greek favorite.â It is a favorite of mine now, indeed. For dinner I ordered the Gyros Salad which is a generous Greek Salad served generously with Gyros. EVERYTHING was tasty including the authentically Greek olives. Even the tzatziki sauce was exceptionalâ I almost said excellent which it is, but for some reason it was more fully flavored than that which I have encountered anywhere in California or anywhere west of the Mississippi River (I travel coast-to-coast and internationally and dine at fussy Michelin rated places). To top everything, the prices are modest. Google Five Star quality for $ or $$ is...
Read moreMoussaka "to go", not worth the $17 or so. You get a lot of Greek salad and not much Moussaka - 4 or 5 bites! It was as if I had ordered Greek Salad with Moussaka on the side. I don't know how much of moussaka one gets if one eats-in? I will never buy moussaka from this place and waste my money. I have eaten moussaka in western Europe and Greece, in particular, but never had such a pathetically small portion of moussaka! I would have given a zero star if I could but sadly, that option is not available.
Maroun, re your response: I did go back to your cafe next day and I was told by the kid behind the counter, that was the normal portion. No apologies, no "how" can we make it right, etc!!
So, may be you should have a matured person handling the complaints!
Incidentally, I just had Moussaka from Pegasus Cafe, Rancho Bernardo and after finishing the moussaka portion of the meal, I had no room for the accompanying pita bread and rice!! There was no pile of salad, as someone else has mentioned in their review - too much salad and not much of the main meal. I should have taken a photo of the meal I got from your cafe to show you as a comparison. Size of the moussaka in the attached photo is 3 to 4 times larger than the moussaka part of the meal your...
