Finally! A Taste of Authenticity Discovered at Delhi Kitchen Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Wow! Flavorful and delicious! I recently had the pleasure of eating dinner at Delhi Kitchen, a hidden gem located in Poway, CA and the delicious aroma hits you as soon as you walk in the door. This unassuming little restaurant with just a few tables and chairs is tucked away in the Trader Joe’s shopping center. It’s plain decor shouldn’t fool you; this is the best Indian food I’ve had since leaving Indian food mecca San Francisco and moving to San Diego a few years ago.
As a discerning lover of Indian cuisine, my experience was nothing short of exceptional. From start to finish, every aspect of my meal was a delight, and I left with a newfound appreciation for the authentic flavors of Delhi Kitchen. Simple and authentic homemade Indian food is what you’ll find here.
I opted for the entree of Bombay Potatoes, Chana Dal, Steamed Long Grain Basmati Rice and Chapati bread. From the first bite, it became evident that the dishes were prepared with utmost care and expertise. The seasoning was exquisite, adding just the right amount of heat and spice to awaken my taste buds, without overpowering the natural flavors of the food.
The Bombay potatoes were tender, perfectly cooked, and bursting with a medley of aromatic spices. The Chana Dal, with its creamy texture and rich flavors, was full of body & depth - and left me craving for more. My husband looked at me after taking a few bites and said “SO good. I could eat this every day “. The steamed rice provided a light and fragrant accompaniment, complementing the robustness of the main dishes. And oh, the Chapati bread! It was warm, soft, and served as the perfect vehicle to scoop up the delicious morsels. I added some chicken and a Samosa to share with my husband. The samosa was crisp and falsely on the outside and soft and flavorful on the inside. Heavenly. The chicken was perfectly seasoned, nice and juicy.
What truly set Delhi Kitchen apart from other Indian restaurants was an unmistakable personal touch. It felt as though I was being transported to the home of an Indian grandmother, where every dish was crafted with love and culinary mastery. The flavors were so well-balanced and authentic that it felt like a true representation of Indian home cooking.
The service at Delhi Kitchen was impeccable, with friendly and attentive staff who made me feel welcome throughout my visit. The cozy and inviting atmosphere added to the overall charm of the restaurant, making it an informal place I will undoubtedly visit on a weekly basis. I was delighted to learn they also offer a to-go menu as well as catering.
In conclusion, Delhi Kitchen is a culinary treasure that has won my heart and taste buds over. With its exceptional food, seasoned to perfection, and a genuine taste of Indian home cooking, this establishment has truly raised the bar when it comes to offering an unforgettable eating experience. We went back the next day for more.

Read moreIn The Central Valley there is a big Northern Indian Community. I walked into this place and it felt like home. Bollywood on the TV, Auntie Infront taking orders , the other employees cooking but also singing to the music... talking to each other in Hindi or Punjabi ... definitely reminds me of The Fastfood Punjab Spots we have in Fresno .My daughter has ordered twice, we love the spices , it’s not spicy though, the prices are fantastic, servings are generous...try the Coconut Ball sweets .. the food is down home cooking style .... you might get a bone once in a while but it like Taqueria food in that way ... sometimes your Menudo has a little too much hominy but it’s kinda the price you pay for eating authentic dishes... no pre maid ... perfectly portioned... product.. sometimes If the cook thinks the food needs extra flavor ... well ... they do what needs to be done. This place is very welcoming, fun and there’s always teenagers dropping by so it’s kind of a local hangout.... my daughter loves that it’s underground but hip ... and it’s pretty cool the kids can grab a Curry Combo Plate.. some Samosas , and a Mango Lassi instead of buying a bunch of random Dollar Meal Items at Mc Donald’s . The owners treat regular customers well specially if you try to order in Their Language... BIG Tip .. try to not say Number 11.. try to pronounce the dish correctly... BOOM you just got a little more chicken in your Tikka Masala.... I can’t wait till COVID is over and I can sit in the dining room and soak up the Northern Indian Vibe..very different than...
