WOW!! It’s hard to choose among all the great Mexican spots around SD, but this one stood out from the picture of their Birria tacos on IG. I went and got two orders the next day with my wife and asked the guy how long they’d been open and he told me they opened in February which is RIGHT before the pandemic hit. I asked him if they were able to stay afloat during these times and he said it’s been very difficult. I made sure to tip him on what smelled to surely be a scrumptious meal. When we got home we were pleasantly surprised to see the plating to be just like the photo.
But the taste...
Look, my wife is not hard to please when it comes to food but it takes a lot for her to repeatedly comment on a meal throughout its entirety.
These tacos were A-MA-ZING from beginning to end, even after a 20 min car ride home. The meat was succulent and tender, the cheese was melted between the two corn tortillas, but it was the hot consummé (after 30 sec in the microwave) to dip was the star of the meal: a perfectly seasoned mesh between broth and brine created after a well-thought and -timed braising of the barbacoa.
The meal was an absolute smash hit. I wish I could give them 6 stars and will certainly be back to help support this local restaurant during these f*%&ed up times.
In finality, here’s a REALLY hot take: these tacos were the best Mexican food I’ve had in San Diego. Hands down. God...
Read moreWasn't hungover, but was delicious. Very unassuming place from the exterior, but upon walking in, we are greeted by a wonderful waitress who sat us. The service our entire visit was fantastic. They didn't mind to explain the menu to us.
I got the chilaquiles. Boy were they good. My favorite part: NO YELLOW CHEESE. it is a pet peeve of mine when Mexican restaurants call themselves authentic, but then proceed to put yellow shredded cheese on top of their beans. Yellow cheese is not authentic to Mexican food.
My brother is a picky eater, but he raved about the quality and flavor of the meat in his asada tacos. His only complaint was they didn't have regular green nor red salsa. They had these creamy-type sauces, which were good with just chips, but even I opted to not pair it with my dish.
The shredded beef (or was it carnitas) quesadilla was HUGE. like seriously. Huge. But last person in our group said it was delicious as well. Wish I could have tried more, but alas the...
Read moreMy friend really wanted micheladas. Looked this place up and we decided to go. We all ordered our micheladas when we got here and they were all tasty. I would say definitely in my top 5. Then we ordered a bunch of food.
Mulita de Adobada - was ok, would order something else. Cucarachas (fried Shrimps) amazing Agua Chile de Camarón - flavorful and with a little kick. Pozole - lacked a bit of flavor, but it was ok Ceviche - delicious Chile relleno - 10/10
The service was great. But the establishment itself is a mom and pop so on a hot day you'll feel the heat. So keep that in mind. The area it is located in has scarce parking, so try the cross streets to find better options for parking. We had a hefty bill at the end but it was worth it. Over all we enjoyed all the food and most definitely the micheladas. We'll be coming back to try other...
