If I could give this place zero stars I would. The service at this place is deplorable for having such expensive menu items and drinks. No blue cheese stuffed olives at one of the most "exclusive hideaways" in downtown San Diego? Are you kidding me? I waited for 20min before I got up to the bar and had to order my own drink. I was very frustrated with how the servers walk right past you, even when you flag them down they ignore you. The bartender didn't even seem to care when I brought this to his attention. That's where tipping comes in handy on the other side of the spectrum. Save your time and go to Altitude at the Marriott in gaslamp. You have an outdoor rooftop view 21 stories up, great service, and cheaper drinks. I will never go to top of the Hyatt again. Plus there was no option to sit at the bar area, all the bar stools were removed when I got there. It's not like it's a club or anything either. So you are relegated to tiny little seats that are secluded and don't offer an opportunity to socialize with other people there. What a joke... I really wanted to like this place after talking to so many people about it and hearing rave reviews. It's too bad, cause I would be at this place almost everyweekend living downtown. They just lost some serious business. If you want a better time there's a great bowling alley in Kearny Mesa I went to a couple weekends ago. Their bar has more cocktail selections than this...
Read moreFirst time staying at this Hyatt. Stars are for location/view in "Top of the Hyatt". We wanted to order from one of the other restaurants in the hotel, but they had closed early. So we ordered food just to bring back to room from TOH. We were unimpressed to say the least. First off, they were out of the crab dip (the thing I was most looking forward to), so we ended up ordering 2 shrimp cocktails instead of 1 ($14 each on menu). These were nothing great - definitely not JUMBO shrimp, maybe large but I'd say closer to medium. More than half of our flatbread was so hard we couldn't eat it ($16 on menu). The sliders app ($15 on menu)...you get 2 (smallest amount I have ever seen in an app order). Sliders were overcooked/dry, and came with under-salted homemade potato chips that were also overcooked, in our opinions. $59 for take out appetizers and we were still hungry. Hubby staff wasn't all that friendly either. The night before, we had better service and food from the young gal inside the hotel's 24 hour market, which I will review next. We had walked in and ordered 2 paninis, tater tots, and a flatbread. She was the only one working, it was late, and she got slammed with other customers while she was making our food. She kept great composure and the only thing we could possibly fault was that our tots were still a lil frozen. We were otherwise pretty impressed with food flavors/quality, we were FULL,...
Read moreAn 18% gratuity was added to my bill, and its presence was deliberately obscured by the member of staff looking after us (we were not provided an itemised check - the other members of our group ordered with the other bartender and they were given an itemised check).
Taking the total check on good faith I left a 20% tip, which in hindsight was obviously on top of the already added 18% gratuity.
We left in a hurry and when it occurred to me that I may have been overcharged I compared my receipt with another member of our group who had ordered similar items to me - hence I noticed the 18% automatic gratuity.
After several frustrating attempts to get through the Hyatt's automated phone system I spoke with the front desk several times, who in turn put me through to the top of the Hyatt - no answer several days in a row. Messages were left by the front desk staff, including an email that I am told was directed to the bar manager. No response any time.
Truly shocking experience on all fronts - even ignoring the woeful service we experienced there. Go there if you desperately want to see the view but read your...
