Watch out for ghost charges and fees.
Didn't explain charges. Room rate was $189 but I was charged $241 at check in for 1 night. Zoinks !
Alexxis was rude and unhelpful. Tried to brush me off when I arrived. There was 1 person checking people in and one older lady at concierge. Alexxis told me to get in line and wait for someone to be available. She finally decided that I was a guest worth helping.
Didn't try to get me into the Marriott bonvoy rewards system although I've stayed at marriott properties several times. She seemed rushed. Maybe she was about to end her shift. Management, check on the morale and wages here please.
Didn't ask if I wanted an upgrade of room /floor
Entry to hotel is open with a nice restaurant bar and snack area. Room is nice and modern.
The lobby and common areas have plenty of seating if you're waiting or want to have a meeting here.
Plenty of conference rooms for events of different capacities.
Parking and valet were available. No airport shuttle was offered but there's an area to print boarding passes (who still does that).
Nice coffee area with movie theater priced snacks. I love that. Good selection of memorabilia for San Diego as well.
Stairs and ladder wells haven't been dusted in years. See photos.
Evidence of water damage all over the building. Walls and wallpaper are buckling in many places. You'll see salt and rust on any mechanical item below eye level. Beware.
No hot tub that I'm aware of. Pool was nice but it's a basic apartment style pool overlooking parts of the city. There was food and beverage service offered there via a QR code. I didn't try it.
Ice makers have not been cleaned or likely serviced in a while. Very filthy. See photos.
$9 for an orange juice is absurd at the restaurant in the lobby. Breakfast buffet was average. Omelet was okay. Low staff. 1 waiter, 1 manager , 1 food runner. Beautiful setting with options to eat outside. Modern seating and tables. Receipt photo attached.
Room was comfortable. I took a 2 bed option since it was me and my 2 sons. Nice desk area under the television. Modern Samsung television with plenty of channels. I didn't see an option to log into Netflix or air play to the TV. Seating area with barstools. Very impressed by the set up. We had a fridge but no microwave. I believe there's one in the lobby. So your food will be cold by the time you get back upstairs. Smile. There's a coffee maker, cups and tea for those who need a pick me up. It comes with 2 creamers and some sugar options.
Bathroom was average with plenty of towels. Standard tub size attached to glass door.
I didn't get drink tickets like other guest have claimed. I guess its only for certain people.

My husband and I stayed at the Westin Gaslamp District from August 21st through August 25th, 2024, to celebrate his birthday, and unfortunately, our experience did not live up to the Westin reputation or the high cost of this hotel.
While the staff was pleasant and courteous, the quality of the hotel itself left much to be desired. Our stay began on a frustrating note when we were assigned a room that did not match the level of booking we had experienced at previous Westin hotels. After my husband went downstairs to address the issue, we were moved to another room, which looked the same but had a better view. The staff kindly offered us four small bottles of champagne as an apology, which was appreciated, but it didn't make up for the inconvenience.
The real issues began with the shower. After a long day of travel and exploring the city, we were looking forward to a relaxing shower. Instead, the water temperature cycled erratically, from the temperature we set to a sudden drop in water flow, leaving only a thin stream of warm water. Then, it would plunge to ice-cold before returning to the original temperature. This cycle repeated throughout the duration of the shower, making it anything but relaxing. We hoped it was a one-time issue, but my husband experienced the same problem the next morning. When we informed the front desk, Jason apologized and told us the hotel was aware of the issue, which was supposedly being repaired. He gave us two drink vouchers as compensation.
On our second night, after spending over 12 hours exploring San Diego, we returned to find that our room's AC was not functioning properly. Despite setting the temperature to 68 degrees, it only cooled down to 71 the night before, which was acceptable. However, that evening, the temperature stayed at 75 degrees—completely unacceptable. Once again, we spoke to Jason, who informed us that the issue was being worked on, but it took several hours to cool the room down again.
Finally, on our last night, after another long day out, we returned to find that our room had not been serviced. The trash hadn't been emptied, the bed wasn't made, and we didn't have fresh towels—there was no sign that housekeeping had even entered our room. We had not left a "Do Not Disturb" sign, so this was completely unexpected. Although fresh towels were delivered promptly after we called, this level of service does not justify the hefty price tag of this hotel.
We left feeling disappointed and frustrated. Given our experience, we will not be staying at the Westin Gaslamp District again. I hope that if we do decide to stay with Westin in the future, it will be a much more...
Read moreMy wife and I chose this hotel on line. We needed a little post-Christmas get away to recover from the holidays. The hotel looked nice and got good reviews, so we reserved for 4 nights. One never knows what a place will be like when one arrives. I have often been disappointed by reality v. on line photos and descriptions. I can say without reservation that this hotel not only met our expectations, but far exceeded them. We stayed on the "preferred" level (15th Floor). Our room was large, comfortable and had a great view. The bed was so well-designed I had the best nights' sleeps I'd had in a very long time. Bottled water was provided at no charge, although the tap water tasted just fine. Every detail was perfect in the room. The lobby area of the hotel is small, with a small restaurant and bar, but the decor is inviting and comfortable, and the staff really worked hard to make our stay memorable. From the valets to room service, the restaurant staff and concierge, all were friendly, efficient, and attentive. The food at the restaurant was absolutely wonderful! The hotel is located on the edge of the gas lamp district, so it's an easy walk to restaurants, shops and clubs. The bay shore is just a 10 minute walk, with Seaport Village, the Midway, and a host of other attractions within easy reach. The hotel actually adjoins a nice outdoor shopping mall, so the shoppers in your family will be very pleased. We often walked around at night, just to enjoy the energy of the city. The hotel is perfectly located and easy to get to if you come in from the freeways. I couldn't recommend this place more. We will be returning to the hotel next year for another get away. My only small complaint was that in-room internet access was something the hotel charged for. This seems to be a manifestation of hotel charges from years ago. Wifi and internet is so ubiquitious these days, that it felt a little "nickle-and-dime" to get charged over $10.00 a night for internet access. Just raise the room rate and don't pester guests with this kind of stuff. It seemed out of place that a hotel that was so comfortable and so focused on guests would do this. The spa and pool area were nice, but the pool was pretty cold. One didn't want to waste a lot of time...
