Every time I review this place it just keeps getting better! Take 3...I changed up my typical lunch special for the veggie lasagna and went with a cup of coffee - pretty good roast for diner brew. The veggie lasagna and meat marinara combo delivered a little bit of everything and was by far the best option of the two lasagnas. I especially loved the artichokes making up the thickness of the dish...still with the classic extra cheesy gooeyness, perfect meat marinara, and fantastic lasagna noodles - never did I ever and I'm so glad I did and only wish I woulda sooner with the veggie lasagna! Sauce comes in either marinara or meat marinara. See video below for this reviews latest footage Feb'24.
Still The BEST pizza house and Italian restaurant since 1954!!! A classic spot in the heart of San Diego where the high quality delicious food, comforting atmosphere, fair prices, and exceptional customer service keeps me coming back! Their lunch specials are stellar deals and their pizza is famous for fresh ingredients and the perfect crust! I was nearly heartbroken at the potential of them closing after the pandemic, but the love from the town pitched in and their reputation kept them alive!! If you're a pizza fan, this place is a gem that will give you great memories for a lifetime.
I always get the lasagna dinner, a hefty serving of ooey-gooey cheesy meaty saucy deliciousness served in a bubbling hot casserole dish, it's definitely a crowd pleaser and a filling comfort dish. The salad with their homemade Italian dressing is STILL the best around - I always ask for an extra serving cup to take home ;) And, once again, the pizza is phenomenal here!! The crust is perfect thickness and crispness! I always get the Mediterranean with artichokes - Just filling yet light enough to share and enjoy other appetizers! Of course, Still the best hospitality and customer care - quite exceptional. If you're stills reading this, debate your hoices no more - get in your car and drive on over to find ample parking and enjoy a classic most tasty meal...
Read moreThis is special family special! I walked in and every employee I walked passed greeted me with an actual and genuine smile and welcome! The host asked me if I wanted to sit anywhere and that anywhere is perfectly fine. The host took my drink order and ran off to get it. A few seconds later my waitress greeted me and asked if I would like anything to drink while she gave me the menu to look over.
I ordered the wings and dinner spaghetti with meatballs. The dinner came with house made lentil soup or a salad and I got the house made Italian dressing. My drink came immediately (*note that you have to ask for straws (thank you Venice Pizza House for saving the environment, and the sea turtles), and then my wings, and then the amazing spaghetti!
As soon as Christina placed my spaghetti down she asked if I needed or wanted anything else, and then immediately thanked me! The spaghetti was extraordinary while maintaining it's simplicity as the tomatoes sauce came through organically. I took my spoon, dipped and scooped the sauce on, and tried it. Tomatoes bliss is an understatement! There were lots of full bodiness and the depth the sauce had easily spoke to me saying that "I'm here for you, and I'm here to comfort you no matter where you came from or no matter what you're going through, I'm here."
This is what I know, I know that I was greeted and welcomed like an honored guest, and that I came home to be warmly welcomed. I know this is my spot for spaghetti without getting overly pricey, complicated, weird, tasteless, or winey. I know I'll return with my friends and family to experience our long lost family member.
I recommend the spaghetti, it is easy, and extrodainary at the same time, and I recommend anyone to recommend the stellar family...
Read moreTonight we went to Venice Pizza House and didn’t actually have pizza. They had a Dinner for 2 special this week which featured a choice of appetizer or salad, two main dishes and a dessert for a special price. We chose the small antipasto salad for our starter and it didn’t disappoint. I’ve always loved Venice’s Italian dressing and it was clear that even though they have new owners that the recipes haven’t changed.
For our mains we ordered the Lasagna and Chicken Parmesan dinners to split. The lasagna can be ordered with meat or veggies and we ordered with meat. It was absolutely delicious and the cheese and pasta practically melted in the mouth. The Chicken Parmesan featured two nice size pieces of chicken breast and was covered in cheese. I found it a little odd they didn’t give at least a side of spaghetti but there was so much food that it wasn’t really needed. Both meals came with garlic bread which was toasted perfectly. Last was dessert and we chose the Limoncello Cake which was moist and refreshing. We really enjoyed the entire meal.
Inside the restaurant was slower than I remember from years ago when I’d dine here on Sundays but it’s possible it was just the night. We were greeted warmly when we arrived and our waiter was a young man who said his family owned the restaurant but that they still had the same cooks and nothing had changed. He was attentive and ensured we were taken care of throughout the meal. They had older sing along music on the radio and seemed to have quite a few carry outs while we were there. There is plenty of parking in back or you can try to grab street parking in front. I hope things will go well with the new owners because this restaurant has been a long time and has solid Italian...
