Yuk Dae Jang has quickly become my husband and I's favorite Korean restaurant in San Diego! We're so glad that they opened down here - I moved down from the Bay Area and have been really missing good Korean food. :)
We love their yukgaejang with custommade ramen as well as their bossam. The ramen noodle texture is soft and chewy - muah chef's kiss along with great flavor from the yukgaejang stew. They don't skimp out on any of the ingredients! The bossam was also amazing - they provide lots of small side dishes to go with it, and while it doesn't come with oyster like many other bossam spots, the flavor, quality, and quantity were great. To give you a sense of portions, my husband and I ordered a bossam (medium size) and a yukgaejang, and we finished the bossam with some yukgaejang left to take home. I've come another time with a girl friend and we nearly finished a shared bossam (small size) and yukgaejang.
My only disclaimer is that if you come around typical meal times, you need put your name down to get on the list (they don't have a Yelp waitlist) and will likely have to wait a while. I've been there for both lunch and dinner around 11:45am and 6:15pm respectively. Both times they said that the wait would be around 30-40 minutes, and it ended up taking about an hour. Thankfully they have outdoor seating where you can wait, or you can grab some boba or groceries nearby. The staff was very apologetic for the wait when we got in, and the service was great once we sat down.
Parking here is great - there's a big parking lot right outside the restaurant, so you don't have to worry about it as much compared to Convoy. The place is also very clean and a great spot for dinner conversation.
Overall, it's a solid addition to the San Diego food scene and we will be back...
Read moreWe have been wanting to eat at Yuk Dae Jang Restaurant but there was always a long line of people waiting to get in. We got lucky on a Monday evening around 7:30pm and got a table without waiting. Our back up plan was to eat at PT Eatery if there was a long line. Waitstaff was friendly, welcoming and greeted us warmly with bright smiles. They brought us water immediately. Upon request, they also brought us warm barley tea. Restaurant is clean with a chic, modern vibe. Big TV screen playing K-pop music videos. We ordered the braised spicy premium beef rib with flat glass noodles and also the original yuk dae jang soup with glass noodle. The soup was very savory and tasted like rich beef broth with spices. They must have spent hours making the broth, so favorable and tasty. We loved the braised spicy premium beef ribs as they were so tender and almost melted in our mouths. The stew had various vegetables, mushrooms fresh and chewy rice cakes and kaboocha squash in a sweet, spicy and delicious sauce. White rice or purple rice were offered with the stew. There were three side dishes. Loved the kimchi so much that we bought a jar home at $15 cost. Owner was attentive and came by to check on us and to help us at the end of the meal. This restaurant is a Korean chain restaurant and provides authentic cuisine. Price point is slightly higher than others. Overall, we enjoyed eating at this restaurant, loved the food and the waitstaff and we will be back to try...
Read moreStopped in for lunch since it was on the way home and had been on our list of places to try and were so glad we did!
We walked in and it was gorgeous inside with authentic pictures of their dishes on the walls. We were sat in a booth seat and given menus right away. The table already had a long Korean spoon (my favorite) and gorgeous gold chopsticks. Water was served promptly.
We ordered the Premium Tripe & Brisket YukGaeJang with Glass Noodle and a 6 piece order of the Kimchi and Pork Hand Crafted Steamed Mandu. The YukGaeJang was well seasoned and served hot to the table. It was loaded with green onions, shredded beef Brisket and noodles. My wife and I shared it and still didn't finish it. The Mandu was also very well seasoned and steamed to perfection. The ponchos (sides) that were served were fish cakes, kimchi and i think green onions or leak? All well seasoned and flavorful staples! We also got a side or rice and when we ordered it the server said "white or purple?" Omg!! We love purple rice! This definitely spoke on the authenticity of this place!!
Everything was so good and well worth the price! We paid a little less that $40...
