Tl;dr: The taste is incredibly bland and doesn't stand out in a sea of other restaurants in the area that serve equivalent meals. Absolutely not worth the prices they offer.
I decided to go after so many years of seeing this area really packed during breakfast hours. It was a local business that even went on to return after a fire broke out and wiped out the building a few years ago, so I was both curious and excited. Unfortunately for me, it turned out to be a very big disappointment.
Me and a friend ordered similar things: an omelet with hash browns and meat (he got sausage, I got turkey bacon), a single order of grain pancakes with blueberries, and coffee. For my omelet, I got tomatoes, spinach, and green peppers. That was probably one of the most bland omelets I've ever tasted. Most other places in the area tend to use specific spices or sauces to give the taste a kick and make it unique, giving you a reason to return there as opposed to another location. But that tasted less than what the ingredients promised, notably due to a lack of salt. There was nothing special. It tasted exactly like something you can make at home for WAY cheaper. The hash browns were arguably worse because they tasted like a whisper of even a potato. We had to pour quite a bit of salt to actually get some flavouring out of it. The bacon and sausages (as well as the coffee) were practically the only things that actually had flavour to it.
Alright, so the breakfast platter was bland but the name of the place is called Heavenly Pancake, so the pancakes have got to be good, right? That was the most disappointing aspect of the meal. When we ordered the pancakes, we were expecting a nice stack with blueberries integrated into the actual pancakes similar to Lola's kitchen, UCrave, and Denny's all just down the street. Nope. It was just the pancakes and some blueberries thrown on top. Nothing inside, not underneath pancake maybe hiding by accident. It was honestly rather pathetic. And the pancakes themselves just tasted like your most bland recipe of flour, eggs, sugar, and milk. Nothing special like a hint of cinnamon here, or a taste of vanilla there, maybe a nice nutty flavour awaiting. It was so by-the-numbers that I'm still left wondering if they just purchase the dough premade in bulk.
So what about the service. It was alright at best, and at worst bad. Not because the waiters were rude, but rather because they seemed WAY too distracted talking. When we were ready to order or trying to get a refill of coffee, we practically had to wave our arms like an inflatable tube man to get their attentions. And when we did manage to get their attention, we would have to wait around 5-10 minutes to actually get what we asked for. Normally, I'd say it's alright because the waiters or waitresses are busy in other areas, but with this place being so tiny, it was more distraction and ignorance than accidental.
All in all, with flavours that are painfully bland and generic, service that takes WAY longer and more effort to get the attention of, a really cramped environment, a waiting time that ranges from 30-60 minutes to get a seat, and a price tag of just under $30 per person I would say it is not worth coming here. Why is it not a 1 star with all the negatives? Again, nothing is inherently awful about the area. It's just that there's nothing actually good about it. The only offense I took from here are the high prices for what I could buy at a grocery store premade for probably...
Read moreNEVER NEVER NEVER COMING BACK HERE AGAIN!!! If i could give them a zero star I would. this is why: Came here 2nd time around and it was 2 pm guessing it was around the time they closed because the staff was ignoring customer service completely; we had to almost seat ourselves because the ONLY 2 servers were too busy having their own personal conversation didn't matter they had clients waiting to eat. SMH once we approached the table it was appalling; food was all over the floor i mean eaten up pancakes, silverware not picked up, just laziness. then once we finally were able to get one of them to get our drink order it took another 15 min to get the drinks alone; not to mention the clean up they had to do to begin with. If they work as much as they talk then it would be impressive once i got the drink the straws looked like the dog outside used them as a chew toy. BTW, the straws were like that in their sealed paper wrapped so you can only imagine. FINALLY THE BIG FINALE! i ordered the shrimp omelete they have on the breakfast menu and as i was enjoying it and about to give a piece of it to my dad to try, long behold i look down and what do i see.... A THICK LONG BLACK HAIR MIXED IN SO DEEP INTO THE FOOD!!!!!!! that alone made put the icing on the cake well in this case the hair on the omelete.
I asked to speak with a manager and to my surprise the manager that approached the table was the same server taking the time to have her personal convo not wanting to tend to clients walking in.
I should of known if she was the manager all hell is loose, no wonder the place is all crumbles.
I walked off refusing to pay such horrible service needs to be reported to the health bureau, oh wait "Did I do That" (steve voice) smh
honestly if you want a family orientated restaurant that is not a corporate google your results to another area YOU HAVE...
Read moreI really like this place and the food is good I've probably been here so often that I've had almost everything with the exception of the sushi which I see they just added. The time before this last time I was there we had a bit of an issue with our order being wrong and yes it was 10 of us but let's let bu gones be by gones. However this past weekend it was just the wife my 7 year old and myself. Let me start by saying that you have to write your own name in a liar to be seated. The last name in the list was crossed off so I was next right ... wrong. They seated another group before us, and ok that's fine let's let that slide, but I sit down and the table was sticky, I got what I hope was maple syrup on my arm and my phone. I ordered and after a slight hiccup they brought out the food, I'll chalk up it up to they were busy, but it's like a one off mom and pop place I expected more. I really like this place and truly hope they get it together but for now it's going ti be those amazing corn pancakes to go...
