We recently visited The440 during a trip from Florida to California with a group of six, and I’m extremely disappointed with the service we received. After spending money on three rounds of drinks, it was obvious that the cocktails were not made with the proper amount of liquor. When I politely brought this to the bartender’s attention, he casually dismissed my concern and said he would only remake the drinks if I paid extra for the shot.

I found this response completely unprofessional and disrespectful. We were there as paying customers, looking to enjoy our evening, and this felt like a cheap attempt to overcharge us for what we should have already gotten. Instead of fixing the issue and ensuring our satisfaction, the bartender’s attitude made it clear they didn’t care.

This experience left a bad taste in our mouths and ruined what could have been a fun night out. I expected much better hospitality, especially as an out-of-town guest bringing business to this establishment. Since there are plenty of other bars in the area, I can’t see myself recommending this place to anyone looking for quality drinks or good service. Unfortunately, I won’t...

This is a "bear bar" but all are welcome. We popped in for some drinks before taking in a show at the Castro Theater across the street.

ATMOSPHERE: It's a narrow, dark-walled, dimly lit bar with a few seats at the front, some in the middle and the majority towards the back.

BEVERAGE: They have a full bar menu with good beer prices.

SERVICE: The bartender was friendly and funny even, presenting my beer bottle to me like it was a bottle of wine.

I remember years ago when this place was called Daddy's, this dick of a bartender gave me attitude because I didn't give him my two drink order at once. Calm down honey, you're gonna give yourself a heart attack!

OVERALL: Cool place, good prices, now with...

I went here last week with some friends because of their awesome Happy Hour. The drinks were good and there was plenty of seating for everyone, but one of the bartenders (a short, older man with glasses) was incredibly rude to my friends and I. He had an awful attitude toward us and treated us terribly. We will definitely not be going back here again because no one should be treated badly like the bartender at 440 Castro treated us. There are plenty of other bars in the Castro that have friendly and welcoming bartenders unlike the short, older bartender here with glasses. If you are looking for a spot with friendly bartenders, this is...

Always fun at 440 Castro! Great deals on drinks! Also, chill place, has good music, and awesome bartenders. Shoutout to our guys Tony (aka "daddy" as we had called him) and Kieth. Thank you for taking care of us. 440 Castro has been our go-to gay bar whenever we visit San Francisco. Not too big, not too small. It's just right. We plan to return sometime soon.

Love this place. Vacationing in SF and while visiting Castro district decided to take advantage of happy hour. Love love love it. I feel like at home aka NYC. Bartender is amazing, friendly and sexy. The crowd is cool and relaxed. Ame during the day. Maybe at night this place gets wild. Might stay to see the action. Haha. #thumbsup

Great place to drink and have fun at Castro. We went with a group of friends, the place was crowded but the service was good and the price for the beer also fare! There are some chairs to sit at the bar but mostly you just have to stay stand up.
