I recently visited Castro Indian American restaurant and was thoroughly impressed with the entire experience! Starting with drinks, I tried the Castro Mule, Avani Modi, and ABCD cocktails. While all were equally good, my favorite by far was the Avani Modi—an absolute must-try! The bartender did a fantastic job balancing the flavors in each. For appetizers, I went with their bestseller podi idli, which was simply perfect—light, flavorful, and beautifully plated. I also tried the chicken tandoori, and it was cooked just right, with great spices that didn’t overpower the taste. Moving on to the main course, I had what I can confidently call the best butter chicken I’ve ever had. It was rich, creamy, and full of flavor. I also tried the shrimp gravy, which was a little different from the usual, but delicious in its own way, especially when paired with their onion and garlic butter naan. The naan was fresh and fragrant, the perfect accompaniment to the curries. To finish off the meal, I had the sweet rasmalai dessert, which was the perfect way to round out the evening. Beyond the food and drinks, the restaurant’s interior is beautiful, and the plating of each dish was artfully done. If you’re looking for a blend of Indian and American flavors with a unique twist, Castro is definitely worth a visit! I’ll be returning soon to explore more of their menu.

Upon visiting Indian Bar in the Castro, the first noticeable thing is the charming ambiance—an inviting setting that makes you feel at home. However, despite the welcoming atmosphere, our experience was marred by a significant delay in service. We waited for over an hour for our food, a time frame that, frankly, left us expecting a meal that would justify the extended wait. Unfortunately, the food didn’t quite meet those expectations. The flavors were certainly present, but the dishes lacked the depth and complexity often found in well-prepared Indian cuisine. While not unpleasant, the food felt underwhelming for the amount of time we spent waiting. The spices, though decent, didn’t quite shine as they should, and the textures weren’t as vibrant as we hoped for. Service, while polite, seemed a bit disorganized, contributing to the longer-than-expected wait time. There was no proactive communication or apology for the delay, which could have helped manage expectations better. In conclusion, while Indian Bar has the potential to be a cozy and flavorful destination in the Castro, it falls short on consistency and timing. If you’re in the area, it might be worth a visit, but be prepared for a longer wait that may not fully deliver on taste.

The place is very very nice, the people are actually from India or from the south asian area, which is a good sign, and they are also very friendly and quick. The food was good but even though it was mild spicy it was still too spicy for me :’) I couldn’t eat all of it so I brought it home and I thought they were going to wrap it up but they left the job to me. I got a mango lassi but in my opinion it was not as tasty as I imagined. But overall we ate good, it’s just maybe not my style, but my sister and father enjoyed it a lot!! The atmosphere is nice and welcoming, there are enough tables outside and inside and there’s one bathroom. There are a lot of vegetarian/vegan options which is very important to me. We paid around $100,something in three people, we got 4 dishes and 2 drinks with 2 little buckets of rice. Would recommend! Thank you love youu

I absolutely loved this place. The food was amazing as an Indian I really liked the flavor of the food which is very rare for me. I recommend the hakka noodles and the uttapam and the panner tikka masala. As a vegetarian there were good options for us also. Next I would like to mention the amazing service, they were very sweet and also the food came quick. Special mention to the servers Tara, Khushi, and the male bartender(forgot his name). They were all so sweet and Tara our server was also amazing it was perfect service we have been to so many restaurants and I have never seen this great service. We didn’t even have Khushi as a server but we just saw how hard she was working same with all of them. We had to go up to them and thank them for this great service after the food and ask for their names since they were the best. The atmosphere was also very great and as someone who wasn’t even from San Francisco I would want to come here again if I could. This was seriously an amazing experience I would...
