Finally, a solid, affordable noodle joint in the Castro/Mission area! I almost don't want to rave so that it doesn't blow up too much, but this place really deserves it. I usually save my Vietnamese food cravings for my trips to San Jose, but this will change that!
We called ahead to see if they could accommodate our small dog on their semi-patio, and the woman who answered happily held our table until we got there. Our server was quick and attentive. Food came out fast, water was refilled regularly, and he came back several times to check up and close our tab.
We ordered the five-spice chicken and egg roll vermicelli bowl, which was a filling portion. Egg rolls were fresh, Vietnamese style. Chicken could have been better seasoned and charred, but still good. Also got the bun bo hue spicy beef noodle, which was more a hybrid between the actual dish and pho. I'm not mad though since it was pretty tasty.
Atmosphere is basic but nice and well-kept. It's not bougie, but it's not meant to be. It's a casual "in-and-out" place I could see myself going after work weekly or a quick sit-down dinner before going out for drinks. Will...

I usually order the vegetarian pho and ask for an extra side of fried tofu because I don’t think it comes with enough personally :)
Unfortunately, every time I’ve been here I have to get up to ask the servers to bring water, utensils, and napkins to my table which is weird. Twice I’ve stood there waiting to be seated while FoH are on their phones and don’t notice me. I always tip at least 20%, and you usually pay before receiving your food here, but it’s always a bummer to not receive quality service after giving the benefit of the doubt.
This time, my server gave away my table while I was in the restroom which pushed me to write this review. He was apologetic but then continued to forget to bring chopsticks, napkins, and water. I noticed one of the other servers kind of picked up his slack at my table and...
Read moreCame with a fairly large group on a Friday night. The place is clean, inviting, and the food was fresh.
We had Five Spice Chicken Pho, Beef Pho, Lemongrass Beef with Garlic noodle, chicken with garlic noodles, pork belly Bahn Mi, Calamari, and a bunch of other things. Needless to say we pretty much covered most of it. I wanted to try the Bun Rieu but I was afraid of being disappointed since we eat at many Viet places from SF, East Bay, and San Jose.
If you like Ben Tre, Gao Viet, Pho Hanoi, Pho Nguyen, and others like it, you might find the food is not what you're used to. The place is cute, the people are really nice and the food is ok.
That being said you won't have a bad meal here. Sometimes the plain authentic dishes are not to other's liking and they prefer an alternative version, that's ok too.
Three stars for the food based on what they're serving, not compared to the popular...
