Don't miss the patatas bravas! We get two orders of the chunky fried potatoes in a zippy, moderately spicy sauce. Our family has been coming here for years and we love Esperpento. The tapas menu is varied and the food is consistently good. The vegetarian is happy with the many vegetables available (especially grilled artichokes and grilled asparagus with garlic) and the cheese selection. There are plenty of seafood dishes and we always get the grilled trout and the sauteed shrimp with garlic. There are slow-cooked stews of beef, rabbit and goat and they are rich and delicious. It's small plates for sharing so expect to order 2-4 dishes per person. And it's very reasonable! We had a plentiful lunch on Saturday that with tip was about $25 per person -- it was our first stop of the day so we weren't ordering alcohol. (There are also large paellas for sharing but we haven't tried those.) The decor is colorful and warm but the place isn't fancy, so choose it for fun and casual meals rather than a glammy date night. Their sister restaurant, Picaro, will give you a similar...
Read moreWe went to this Restaurant for the first time this past Saturday looking for Authentic Spanish food. Since visiting Spain 2 yrs ago we've been on the hunt for Similar food in Marin or the Bay area. We had found one in Gerard's Paella in Santa Rosa unfortunately it just closed down Permanently in Santa Rosa. We took a chance and googled it and Esperpento came up on the list. Best decision we ever made! We ordered the Paella which takes 30 minutes to get ready. Ok we knew it had to cook so no problem. We ordered appetizers and some drinks. We had a very nice dinner. the Restaurant was very clean we did not worry about a lot of people inside the restaurant because everything seemed space out enough. The food was Awesome! The paella was great it even gave Barcelona some competition. I believe one of the owner approached us and asked how we liked our meal so far? I told her We were Happy we googled Authentic Spanish Cuisine and they came up. Happy we found them and we will...
Read moreI am not a professional review, and this just my opinion. For many years, a few of my soccer buddies and I had our Friday lunch at Esperpento. The menu has not changed much, but some chefs were better than others. During our last visit after a long hiatus, we were pleased to find that the current kitchen offerings are quite good. We usually enjoy a variety of tapas - liberally accompanied by a chilled Rosé or a good Rioja red - then order a salad prior to diving into a "Mariscada" of seafood. While the food is good to excellent, the same cannot be said of the service. It's a good thing that we know the lady maître d', who will corral an inattentive server to take orders, etc. The owner is from Spain, so it's a good sign that the tapas are pretty authentic. The wine list is limited but sufficient, the sangria is fine. Noisy place, sometimes difficult parking, but the place does offer good food at prices which won't break the bank. Nice place for a...
