🚫🏳️🌈🚫 IF youre any kind of LBGTQ+ please, spend your money elsewhere. Or at least, make sure you dont get sitted by the bar and avoid Hispanic male Gustavo as your bartender. He will ignore you the whole night, look at you right in the eye and walk away without a simple reply or acknowledge of your request for service. He'll make sure he treats your partner different, special treatment if he/she's white, so if on top of, how dare you being a lgbtq+ you belong to a racial minority, he'll make sure you feel like the second class citizen you deserve in his eyes. The only way you'll get service is through your Caucasian partner, so mentally prepare for that.
Extra nice towards them though, even throwing 3 free drinks so when you complain about his nasty racist homophobic ways, he still gets someone that will think, but he was oh so nice to me! Now this is meant for Management and Corporate offices. By not addressing and correcting his behavior, you're all part of the problem and enabling him to keep getting bolder by the second. He didn't reach that expert level of Passive aggressive at first, purely aggressive and blatantly disrespectful overnight. He even shouted from time to time, "This is my ship, I run it however I want it!' Also, you may wanna check the cameras from last night, July 4th, around 9:20pm to see him pocketing cash from drinks of a severely impared inhebrated woman that handed him $100 bill and he poured her a triple shot of whiskey, in clear violation of every kind of Health & safety CA code. I also owe you the amount for the 3 free drinks he gave to my Caucasian girlfriend while being completely unprofessional rude and racist towards me, the San Francisco one, the one with the reservation under my name and paying for the bill.
Feel free to contact me and charge me for those 3 drinks he intentionally didn't put on the bill to stay on her good side.
I talked to the manager and he was kind apologetic and understanding, he also said it's nothing new coming from him. My review here will serve him as paper trail to finally put corrective measures in place for him. May you be able to address him now that you have tools for that. Again, contact to pay for the extra 3 drinks. I don't want to owe him any favors. Especially when it's the company money he's giving away and pocketing...
Read moreAfter catching up on some of my Google reviews, I realized that I never rated/commented on this restaurant so unfortunately, this is an extremely late post. My family and I visited this restaurant while we were in town sightseeing and in anticipation of watching our team play (and win) against the "Oakland" Raiders. Needless to say, we had a great time visiting the bay area and this restaurant was a major contributor to that experience (we still talk about to this day). We currently live in Las Vegas so visiting a restaurant right next to the ocean is always an appreciated experience.
We ended up ordering the crab cake, clam chowder (of course), 2-lb whole crab, shrimp/crab combo, salmon with garlic lemon caper butter sauce, crispy roasted mixed potatoes and vegetables, and another entree (I can't seem to remember what it was). Regardless, all we can remember is that EVERY entree that we ordered were spectacular. Sitting right next to the window and being able to see the water/Alcatraz from our table was amazing. Also, there's something about eating seafood while staring at the ocean...just makes the whole experience very relaxing and at times, seems to make me love seafood even more (if that's possible because I've always loved seafood). The food quality was outstanding - definitely comparable to my experiences in my home state of Hawaii. The food quantity was adequate...I mean, if you want to have 62 lbs of crab right in front of you for under $50, then go buy some frozen seafood at Wal-Mart or something. The price to quantity/quality ratio at this restaurant is outstanding if you ask me. Not to mention, you are sitting next to the water and you're dining in one of the most expensive cities in this country (why we don't live in CA). So I don't understand why people are complaining about the prices (which you can research before arriving), and the quantity (you must be a world class buffet eater or something).
The staff at this restaurant were very friendly, professional, and attentive - I/we appreciated that! To be transparent, I'm not sure if we'll ever visit this restaurant again since I don't anticipate visiting San Francisco or Oakland any time soon. BUT, if we do, then we are definitely eating here again! Thanks for the phenomenal,...
Read moreI have been eating at The Franciscan for decades now and I have some very grave concerns about how long they will remain open. It is no secret that many of the well known eateries in the Fisherman's Wharf area have had to close their doors post pandemic. Will The Franciscan be next? There are a few things that the management needs to correct ASAP-Staff is struggling with keeping positive attitudes and this effects the guest experience. Being told in detail about how they fear for the future of the restaurant wasn't what we expected to hear from our server when we sat down to eat. Definitely put a damper on the experience. Kitchen needs to practice effective quality control. If the food they send out is not something they are proud to serve it should not go out. Chef also needs to help set the wait staff up for success by making sure each dish that goes out is quality food for the price and tastes amazing. Maintenance needs to wash the windows and do a better job, in general, of keeping the place sparkling clean. When people are unhappy with the food they begin to notice all the dirty little nooks and crannies-not good. Filthy windows with a spectacular view behind them is just laziness. I had the crab enchilada which I feel is a misnomer because there was little to no crab in my enchilada. The flour tortilla it was wrapped in became a gooey mess when served due to the obnoxious pile of shredded cheese on top. The enchilada sauce was decent but the rest of the ingredients in this dish do not complement it. The Sizzling Iron Skillet Roasted Super Combo was a disaster. It was advertised as being served in a crab butter sauce but what we got was a greasy, red tinted sauce. Very unappetizing. The crab was tiny and the amount of meat on the crab was not worth the effort. Maybe it is a bad year for Dungeness Crab? The wine list was adequate, the bread was served warm and crusty and they did validate our parking-all pluses. Franciscan Crab...
