Boudin Bakery — Attraction in San Francisco

We needed a Togo bag and we walked up to the “order drinks here” area. I asked a woman in a blue shirt for it and she rolled her eyes and said “clearly this is just for drinks” and walked away! I went over to the other counter which was connected to it and less than 3 feet away and asked a different person. They didn’t speak English and after trying for 5 mins to get anyone else’s attention I had to try the drink girls again. She handed a bag to a gentleman a few people down from me so I shook my head in utter disbelief and asked her for a bag again. At this point she told me “you can’t buy it you can go” so we decided to leave and will never be going back or recommending this place! The gentleman greeting everybody at the front door was nice and I told him about the interaction and his excuse without even looking at the person I was talking about had a knee jerk reaction of saying that she was brand new….. you can’t keep claiming they are “new employees “ she was not new nor was she kind in anyway. First of all, the tour is no longer available so don’t expect that option based on previous reviews or the name of this place. There is, however, a cute small walkway that you can view the baking process from on the upper level.

I didn’t try the sourdough sandwiches but my parents had strong negative opinions about how cold, hard and chewy they were. Dad’s words “and this is supposed to be known as THE sourdough place!”

The two stars is due to the chowder which was good and hearty. However, the set which includes the chowder and salad ($13.99) just seemed way too sad for me. Sadly, perhaps this is just how pricey...

Iconic name in SF. Has the French dip sandwich which is one of the best sandwiches I’ve had. The texture and flavor of the meat is just right with the perfect bread (crunchy on the outside). Clam chowder is decent enough when compared to New England chowder. The waffle dessert was bomb! Everything was seasoned right. Plenty of seating options. You get to enjoy a brief history of the place with its little museum. Service is good, lady at the counter calling out numbers was entertaining with her accent and enthusiasm.
