Successful Thursday evening walk-in at 5:30! YES! I had been nervous since no reservations were available when we looked earlier this week and we wanted to do outdoor dining only. I poked around the yelp reviews and was nervous to see a couple of complaints about the service, so I dreaded what we would encounter. Fears unfounded as far as I can tell-- the staff were warm, welcoming, friendly, kind, and fun! Starting with the super nice hostess who conspiratorially offered up to us one of the booth tables on the rooftop even though we were just a party of two. The heat lamps were magical and the table well-warmed! Most comfortable, luxurious outdoor dining experience ever!
Ordering is done on your phone via ToastTab and the menu is there as well. Wait staff came by and explained the whole process to us, including a heads up about the equity fee. She came by and checked on us periodically, and even stayed and chatted for a little bit which I thought felt very hospitable. She also very helpfully made a recommendation about how much to order-- 2 starters and 2 mains, shared family-style. We also tacked on two sides, and I will take the blame and say that was what put us over and gave us lovely leftovers for tomorrow. I just couldn't resist the jewelry rice after seeing the rave mentions from other yelpers.
My cocktail was the Other Mother- delicious! My friend had first the Calamansi Cooler and then the Mango Tango. Hilariously the server misidentified the Calamansi Cooler as the Mango Tango but my friend was quickly able to ascertain that she was indeed given the correct drink. She later ordered the mango tango and thought the Calamansi cooler was better. To be fair to the server, it seems the two drinks look a lot alike.
We had the halibut aguachile (a must-have in my opinion), butter lettuce and radicchio salad (delicious, and well-dressed and I loved the crunchy bits); green curry (i thought I didn't like catfish, but this was good and was a good amount of spicy); the pork belly (delicious and unique with the addition of the grapes); the aforementioned jewelry rice (reminded me of zhongzi which I love); and the oyster mushrooms (pretty good though I'm learning maybe I don't love grilled mushrooms aside from portobello as last week I had grilled maitakes and wasn't too stoked either. I didn't hate it but I think these types of mushrooms probably pick up too much smoky taste. In my heart, perhaps I had wanted the broccoli more...). Also got a side of rice to go with the green curry.
We had zero room for dessert. I'm excited about my leftovers for tomorrow. This was a wonderful dining experience all around! Oh, I also want to note that I'm a huge fan of their sake selection which has Sequoia and Den Sake. I didn't partake but I'm familiar with both brands which are local and very excellent.
Total bill ended up just shy of $200 for two people which is not too shabby at all! Well worth it for the wonderful dining space, welcoming service, and deliciously creative and copious...
Read moreI came in on a Friday night at 6 PM. Based off of their walk in tips and tricks on their website we knew we had to get there early in the evening if we wanted a spot for dinner without a reservation. We were greeted right away and told that we could sit at the bar for dinner. The bartenders were friendly and attentive. The cocktails we ordered, Thrilla in Manila and Blackping Sling, were delicious. We started with a scallion bun, eggroll stuffed chicken wings, and the crazy tiger shrimp salad, which was recommended highly by the server. We enjoyed all three. The salad had very fresh and innovative flavors. Nothing like Iâve ever tried before. The chicken wing was also very unique and the outside was very crispy and the sauce was very good.
For dinner, we got the pork belly with a side of jewelry rice and grilled oyster mushrooms. What I really liked about the pork belly was that they gave us so much meat! Sometimes you go out to restaurants and they only give you a small portion, but me and my husband shared this and we felt very full afterwards. The jewelry rice was different as it was baked in a banana leaf and complemented the pork belly. I am a very big mushroom fan and I never cook myself oyster mushrooms and wanted to give this a try. I think I would get them again as the sauce and flavors were very good.
Overall for dinner on a Friday night at a highly recommended restaurant by friends, me and my husband had a wonderful time and would absolutely return. In addition to the food, the servers, bartenders, hostess, atmosphere were all wonderful. Not to mention they were bumping some great music in there and we really felt like the âcultureâ at Good Good Culture Club was...
Read moreGenerally the service was ok, but when we arrived, it took quite a while for anyone to greet us at the host stand, and even longer to get us seated as there was no one seating parties as they arrived. Once seated there was some confusion between the QR ordering and the "our vision of what we believe our dining experience should be doesn't include the formality of traditional order taking."
The first person to come to our table took our drinks order, but then couldn't seem to locate items that we'd ordered via the phone menu to answer questions about them. We asked very basic ingredient questions and it took a very long time for them to get back with an answer. We got cocktails that were good but had to ask for water multiple times (from multiple people).
We're vegetarian and there were plenty of items that were or could be made vegetarian. But mostly small/share plates, these didn't seem to come out of the kitchen in any logical way, the cold yuba salad arrived, and then a 20 min gap, then all of the other hot small palates came at once, including the modified veggie curry, overcrowding our very small table. Most of the food was good, but the veggie curry was extremely vinegary and unbalanced.
The music inside was too loud and we found ourselves having to yell just to hear each other. The bill seemed high for what we'd ordered, we paid via the phone and left without being acknowledged.
Update: restaurant reached out and genuinely wanted to learn what they could do better. I believe our experience was probably an outlier, and weâll likely go back in the future to check out...
