San Francisco’s best kept sushi secret where flavor meets affordability @livesushisf Every dish I had here was under $30, with my favorite being the chirashi bowl and live sushi combination. 🍚The Chirashi bowl is a vibrant arrangement of 13 thick cuts of fresh sashimi atop sushi rice, and is a feast for the eyes and palate. 🍣 The Live Sushi Combination is a symphony of flavors and textures, showcasing 6 deluxe nigiris, 4 cuts of sashimi and 6 spicy tuna rolls. 🍙 #1 Handroll, a true gem of the menu, is an indulgence worth savoring. The creamy uni and quail egg, with seared salmon skin, nestled within a crisp seaweed cone, is a burst of textures and complex flavors. 🐟 The Albacore Tataki, lightly seared white tuna seasoned to perfection, melts in your mouth with a burst of umami goodness from the sauce. 🦀 The Crab Napoleon, a delicate construction of crab meat, avocado, and tobiko, is a testament to the chef’s artistry. From the freshness of the ingredients to being able to watch the chefs prepare each dish infront of me, it was truly a dining experience that showed sushi can be both affordable and delicious! 📍Live Sushi Bar @livesushisf 2001 17th St, San Francisco, CA 94103 #sanfranciscofoodie #sanfranciscofood #sanjosefoodie #sfjapantown #sushiporn #sushilover #japanesefood #sushiset #omakasesushi #southbayfoodie #bayareafoodie #bayareafood #eeeeeats #sfeats #japanesefoodlover #sushirolls #sushiaddict #sushibar

Some of the items are simply exquisite. Tonight I ordered the Live Sushi, which is a combination omakase light, sashimi and a spicy tuna roll. The server asked if I wanted to upgrade to the seasonal fresh fish, and the 8$ was a bargain. The nigiri was just melt in your mouth perfection. The hamachi and butterfish were two of the outstanding pieces. The sashimi turned out to be more white fish so it was great. The spicy tuna roll was also very good. Rock star perfect in my book. We also got some Nabeyaki udon which was just ok. The bento box with chicken teriyaki and tempura was very good, the chicken moist and flavorful and the tempura was light and crunchy, not greasy. Really tasty. We also grabbed a dragon roll and spider roll, both very tasty. Overall a great experience and will be back for more.

Really enjoyed the chirashi and the omakase box special. Fish was very fresh and the omakase was very unique. We enjoyed all of it very much. The staff was nice despite an initial period of confusion about how long the wait was or whether we could even get a table. But once we were seated the staff were great. Atmosphere is cute. Looks somewhat updated, not a huge fan of loud music in any restaurant. So if you're looking for a quiet dinner out then you might want to go elsewhere, but the food alone is worth it. We were curious about the noodle soups, and I like to go back for that. Even though this is a sushi place, the soups that other people ordered looked promising.

I had such a good time here! Be sure to make reservations, as it gets packed soon. It's tucked away in a very chill neighborhood, pretty easy to get to, and easy to find parking. The ONLY reason I didn't give it a full 5 star rating was because there was no dessert...and I have a sweet tooth always, especially after rolls on rolls on rolls.

Service: excellent!!! The server was very friendly. Our server was awesome as well, genuinely friendly and helpful, and attentive to us, from cheating empty dishes to refilling our sake glasses. She was sure to share with us her best suggestions on meal choices. Entrees and beverages arrived quickly, never leaving us waiting too long not crowding the table. Loved her professional and friendly service.

Atmosphere: nestled in a very chill neighborhood, it was mixed with families, young professionals, Locals, to new people stumbling in to try this place. Enough room to talk with your company. When waiting, staff is so awesome and asks if you'd like something to drink while waiting for your table. Again, make reservations ahead of time, especially on weekends. I truly enjoyed dining here on a date, but could be versatile for casual get together a, big groups or just take out!

Food: I was swimming in FRESHNESS! We ordered the Crazy Monkey Roll, which was delicious. We went outside the box a bit and ordered the Behind The Green Door roll (it was ehhhh ok), and the #1 Hand Roll (with quail egg it was a burst of big flavor wrapped in seaweed!). My favorite was the 16pc assorted sashimi....our server suggested getting the "fatty fish", and she did not disappoint, because the "fatty fish" sashimi was to-die-for. I could've devoured the entire plate....so freaking fresh!

A friend suggested to sit at the sushi bar, so can't wait to try again and sit at...

Cute place, solid ambiance, mediocre food.

The place is small, cozy, and the service is pretty decent. The people are nice and it's a relaxing spot to catch up with a friend. Unfortunately, the food doesn't quite live up to the same standard. I came here most recently on a Tuesday evening around 6pm and shared some food with my aunt:

Crab Napoleon: 4-stars. This best dish of the evening. Layers of crab, avocado, salmon, and tuna with yuzu creamy sauce. Topped with tobiko. Served absolutely gorgeously in a little tower. Super fresh, a good mixture of textures and flavors. $15.95

Agedashi Tofu: 2-stars. Lightly fried tofu, served in some kind of sauce that had no flavor and left the tofu soggy. A large portion though, three big pieces. $7.50

Nemo: 3-stars. Seared salmon wrapped scallops with a garlic butter dipping sauce. This sauce was also incredibly light on flavor, and while the seared salmon was full of flavor, it completely covered the delicate scallops. It was impossible to taste them in the dish. $11.95

Bergschneider Roll. 4-stars. Unagi and avocado roll topped with salmon. A really large roll, full of umami flavors and topped with super fresh salmon. $14.95

Local tip: try the sake flights! Huge, strong pours of vastly different sakes that will introduce you to a whole new thing if it's your first foray into sake.

Overall, I probably won't run back for food, there are just too many great sushi spots in town. That said, I might stop in for happy hour to grab a...

I have been wanting to try this place for a while reviews seemed good but finally went with a friend other day and was very disappointed overall. Tuna tataki has been my favorite go to at sushi restaurants for 20 + years but have to say this was the worst I’ve ever had , the color and presentation was off and had a fishy taste and smell, didn’t seem fresh. The sushi rolls we got I don’t even remember the name but rice was warm and roll fell apart after dipping in soy sauce, was ok but nothing memorable to return for. The cooked spinach salad was very good tho. The waiter was also a bit awkward and over complicated ordering. I asked for a cold green tea and they asked if I want green or jasmine… usually there is jasmine green tea , but they said it’s just jasmine I really didn’t care just wanted a cold one then after all that I order green tea they brought me a bottle of jasmine green tea lol. Left hungry , weird and unsatisfying experience. Definitely...
