While this Miyabashi Sushi does not take reservations and the restaurant was busy on a Saturday evening of Pride Weekend, we were able to get seated right away as walk-ins. Service was good and our orders arrived promptly, even though the restaurant appeared to be staffed by just one sushi chef and one waitperson.
The sushi and sashimi we ordered was fresh, tender, and delicious. Prices were on the high side, though. We were not sure if this is related to the current high inflation rate or the exorbitant rents in the Union Square hotel area that have already resulted in the closure of another nearby sushi restaurant.
For example, just one order of a combination of 5 pieces of sashimi and 5 pieces of nigiri sushi was priced at $56.95. This included just one small bowl miso soup and one small seaweed salad, so we had to purchase an additional miso soup at $3.95. The rolls we ordered, Fire Dragon and Lion King, were priced at $18.95 each, but they did have a generous number of 10-12 pieces each. Adding in a delicious fried banana dessert, one imported Japanese Kawaba Snow Weizen beer, and one Diet Coke, our total bill with tax and tip came to $82.00 per person.
With the closure of the nearby, highly rated Kaisen Sushi on 5th Street due to inability to negotiate a reasonable lease rate with their landlord, Miyabashi remains a reliable, if pricey, choice for Japanese food for shoppers, theatre-goers, and visitors staying in the Union Square area of...
Read moreI ordered the Small Unagi Don Set (grilled eel over rice).
My friends chose the salmon and beef teriyaki set.
The set that we ordered include organic green salad and miso soup.
If you don't like the flavor of wasabi, for the salad, you may check if it's possible to remove it as I had no idea there was wasabi until I tasted it. & look at how large the salad bowl was... there was avocado too 🥹😍 (first picture)
Can I also just say that the MISO SOUP so flavourful~ I was too shy to ask if it’s refillable but dang I swear it great. It definitely DOES NOT taste anything like packet miso, the tofu are in visable bite size!
After tasting the different sets, I definitely & highly recommend the unagi set!! It is extremely tasty, perfectly cooked, and melts in your mouth. 💯
I had hot tea, the tea was aromatic & refillable.
My friends ordered beer, which was smooth & refreshing.
Great experience & absolutely worthy of a return visit~
Unagi Don - 26.95 usd Hot Tea - 4.50 usd
Ps: Reading the positive feedback and having the opportunity to experience the meal for myself... I'm uncertain why this restaurant only has 3.7 stars. I have to stand up for them, apart from the interior being a little worn, their food...
Read moreAs soon as walking through the door you notice the place could use some renovations. The decor was simple, even though some of the best restaurants are simple. It had a nice ambiance; perhaps like a small local sushi spot in Japan. They were relatively busy for 8pm on a Wednesday but only had one server working. The server was nice and accommodating although clearly overworked as quite a few tables had to go up to the bar to order since no one came to their table.
I ordered a simple Alaskan Roll and Takka Roll. The Alaskan had good flavor and the fish was fresh. The tuna in the takka was perhaps a tad old. I finished my meal with a crunchy giant which looked amazing and had great presentation. I know I asked for a roll that’s tempura but it may have been cooked too long. Still tasted good and filled my belly.
It was a nice meal but Idk if I’d...
