Let me start by saying that if I could give this hotel zero stars, I would.
I was a guest at Hotel Abri from June 19-24, 2019. It is now August 8th. I've been back and forth with them since then and at this point I'm done withholding my review. Here goes:
Upon arriving at the hotel, I was checked into a room that had a broken window, jammed open at an upward angle, with insects crawling on the windowsill. I called maintenance to report the issue and an engineer was sent to the room to help resolve it. He was very friendly, quickly fixed the window, and flicked the insects outside as he closed it.
The next morning several cockroaches flew at me in the bathroom. I found this disturbing but understood that I was in a large city and it may be uncontrollable. Every attempt I made to chase them down was unsuccessful as they were rather quick. I did, however, report it to the front desk while heading to the conference I was attending. Later that evening, a colleague from the conference came back to the room with me to retrieve some items before a networking event. When I opened the mini-refrigerator, we saw at least 3 cockroaches scurrying around inside. I quickly slammed the door and called the front desk to report it. It was only after this third report of insects that the hotel finally took any action and offered to move me to a new room. I took them up on the offer since I was uncomfortable having my personal items exposed to cockroaches. The hotel staff also told me they would call pest control, though after leaving the hotel I was told (by Beth, the front desk manager) all they ever did was a visual search of the room.
Due to tight financial constraints, overbooked hotels, and an incredibly hectic conference schedule, I was unable to secure another hotel nearby to finish out my trip, though it was not for lack of trying. While I did appreciate the room-upgrade offered by the hotel, I was incredibly thankful when I checked out and a woman named Nicole told me that my room was comped for the inconvenience. What a relief! She handed me a folded-up piece of paper that she said confirmed it and I headed to the airport. When I landed at home, unpacked and opened it up, I was confused by the fact that a charge appeared on the bottom of it, so I called the front office and spoke again to Nicole, who confirmed that my room had been comped. I then received a voicemail from Beth, who asked me to call back regarding my invoice. Upon calling back a woman named Rachel answered, pulled up my file and also confirmed that my bill had been comped.
Let's recap: two different people on three different occasions told me that the room was fully covered, and I would not be charged for my stay at Hotel Abri. I reported the insect problem on three separate occasions, beginning on my first night. I was not moved to a new room until the third night of my stay.
Upon reaching out to the hotel several times after being charged, the front desk manager (Beth) told me that she would not comp my stay because I never reported the issue to the front desk. This is entirely untrue. I reported it on three separate occasions, all described above.
Beth also told me that both Nicole and Rachel weren't trained to read the hotel bills. Hence why they "incorrectly" informed me that my room was fully comped. Seriously?! You don't train your staff to read the guests folios?
Never again. Save yourself the obscene cost, sleeping with bugs, and...
Read moreTRAVELERS BEWARE!!!! If I had the “no star” option, I would have taken it- sorry I can’t rate this 4-Star hotel or the rooms, because I was charged 117.38– only to end up sleeping in a car 🙄🙄🙄!
Hotel Abri… a 4 Star Hotel is adding additional fees to make up for advertised lower rates. Urban fees and valet fees are scams to make up for the “savings”….. read my honest but unfortunate experience and don’t be taken like I was- I wish I was making this up because then that means it never happened and I’d be soooo okay with that ☹️😢.
On 8/3/2024 I booked a room with Hotel Abri through Hotels of America. My total was 117.38- 78.12/night + 39.26 taxes and fees… don’t ask me how taxes and fees add up to nearly 40.00 but it just shows how ludicrous this is.
Upon check in, I was told there was an additional 40.00 “Urban Fee”. After I asked what an urban fee was, I was told it’s a fee hotels are “required” to charge per the State of California (an outright lie). After much back and forth, this “required fee” was reduced to 10.00. Then when I inquired about parking, I was told that there’s a 65.00 “valet fee”!!
The “tremendous savings” so far totals 117.38 + 65.00 + 10.00= 192.38 (222.38 w/o that Urban Fee discount).
Tip: I researched Urban Fees and they are a way for hotels near attractions to make more money. The most insulting part of Hotel Abri’s “Urban Fee” is the countess homeless people in downtown SF!
The “valet parking” charge is because of the location and the only guest that isn’t charged is the traveler who flies and gets a cab or Uber!
My minor granddaughter and I spent the night in the car at a restaurant stop just outside the Golden Gate Bridge with a consistent police patrol throughout the night- I know, because I only slept a couple of hours!! So this luxury, 4 🌟🌟🌟🌟 hotel is so worried about their greedy bottom line, not only will they allow 2 female out of state tourists to sleep in a car AND refuse to reimburse their money, but also has the absolute nerve to keep their voicemail full to avoid answering any messages when you call to speak to a manager! Conveniently, there was no manager on site the night I arrived, no manager available the next morning (the acting manager first said it’s the 3rd party responsible for reimbursing me, then said when Hotels in America contacts them, “if my story checks out”, I’ll get reimbursed- more lies on top of lies!!
I just called Hotels in America and they said that it’s MY job to get my refund from Hotel Abri! They’re not responsible for additional charges- I say that if you have an advertised price, it should be honored or else what’s the point of using the service?
I am not the monkey in the middle nor should I have to be. Blaming each other 😉 is a dream way of not having to take responsibility- just point the finger at the other one, back-and-forth.
I’m disputing the charge with my bank and contacting anyone else I can regarding this scam between these 3rd party agents and hotels. Enough is enough!
The ladies rest room facilities at the rest stop in San Francisco have an upper level and lower level. The upper level was closed for cleaning- not an attendant in site. The lower level was so disgusting and appalling, I didn’t...
Read moreThe Hotel Abri has truly become my 'go-to' Hotel, whenever I travel to SF from Portland, OR, where I currently live. And, after trying a plethora of SF hotels on and off, from the Hotel Tonight app, (which I have been enticed by, due to some incredible deals offered), I found time and again, I would regret not having booked my stay at the Hotel Abri. THREE giant perks about booking your stay at the Hotel Abri in San Francisco: 1st Perk: Location, Location, Location : the location is steps away from Union Square, the famed SF Cable Cars, the Theatre District and a city shopper's Paradise. 2nd Perk: The Hotel Packages, where they waive the urban fee! I don't want to spoil the fun, so please peruse their website. I love to book my stay with their 'Breakfast Package', but I've also used their 'Valet Package', and even without the included breakfast at Tad's Steakhouse down the street, I was happy. 3rd Perk: The Front Desk/Concierge Team! Consistently, for each of my 5 hotel stays (and counting), the Front Desk/Concierge team has been consistently welcoming, helpful, accommodating, responsive to any concern or room issue I had, and kind. It's hit and miss, in regards to Front Desk service, at almost any hotel I've stayed at, but the Hotel Abri has an outstanding team, who consistently, and authentically, want to help provide the very best service to each of their guests. They even provide hot coffee and tea service in the lobby each morning, just in case the offered in-room coffee and tea doesn't meet your standards. I will agree with some reviews I have seen online of The Hotel Abri, that the hotel rooms could use some updating and deeper cleaning by the cleaning staff, but the rooms are still elegant & quite cozy, the in-room amenities are plentiful (including coffee and tea with your own mini-keurig), a mini-fridge, free in-room wifi, and the shower (and shower pressure) is something to brag about! Not mentioned in reviews I've read about the Hotel Abri, is the stylishly chic lobby that greets you upon your arrival, and the casual elegance spread throughout the Hotel. When I've stayed at the Hotel Abri, I have had rooms with a city view, other times, a partial street view, and others, with only a brick wall view. When I've had a room with a view of the lovely brick wall next to the Hotel Abri? It's truly the quietest room you could have, and a quiet hotel room in San Francisco is worth its weight in gold. I give TWO enthusiastic thumbs up for the Hotel Abri. And while it IS true, San Francisco has an embarrassment of riches in the many hotel choices travellers have, when visiting the city by the bay, in my opinion, the immense VALUE you receive, in the amenities, the location, offered hotel packages, and their outstanding Front Desk/Concierge Team, makes the Hotel Abri a tough...
