Citizen M Stayed there 1 week on vacation. Here’s my review: The Good: Location. Outstanding. Walking distance to the Golden Gate Theater (live band concert), the SFO Museum of Modern Art, Yerba Buena Garden, 1 block from Burger King, Walgreens, the Cable Car turnaround/terminal, 2 blocks to Macy’s. Neighborhood felt safe. More Good: Hotel is almost brand new, so everything works. Hotel is spotless; even the elevators get a thorough wipe down. The staff is 100% friendly and accommodating. More Good: Instead of a useless lobby there is a smart common area. It’s like 3 expansive rooms connected. One wall is all glass looking out onto Ellis street. Lots of new comfy couches, all rooms beautifully and unusually decorated. This is where you can brings friends in to meet and relax and you won’t be embarrassed. Computers available though not printers. More good: Quiet. Some reviewers complained about noise. Not us. Though the hotel was full, we never heard a peep from beyond our room. The sorta good/sorta not so great: We ate the buffet breakfast. It’s $38 (ouch) for two people. It was OK for two days but quickly became monotonous for the price. Eggs only scrambled. No omelettes, pancakes, or waffles. But great coffee (lattes no extra charge!) and fresh orange juice! The room. You think you are prepared from reading the other reviews that the rooms are small-ish. I was not prepared. I would say the rooms are microscopic. Think I am exaggerating? When you enter the room, you will see at the far end your XL king size bed. Ready? That bed touches three walls of your room. You cannot walk around the bed. Both of us had to crawl over the same side of the bed just to get in or out. So I am guessing the room is about 7 1/2 feet wide by 20 feet long. INSIDE of this space is the frosted glass bathroom/ shower enclosure, closet, sink area and mini desk with chair. At the mid point of the room there’s barely enough room for two people to pass. There is a tiny fridge in kind of a drawer but not nearly the size of a mini fridge you find in most hotel rooms. Everything possible has been done to make the most use of every square inch of the space. No lamps sit on horizontal surfaces - they are attached to the walls.Everything is on the ever-so-slightly tiny size including the sink, desk, and chair. But not the bed. It is huge - and comfortable. The room safe is useful. Room electronics and temperature are all iPad controlled and this was a mixed bag for me. You can easily change the LED light color glowing from the glass shower enclosure to any shade of the rainbow but do I really want that feature? I dunno. The iPad worked well for temperature but was unnecessarily fussy for the TV. You can ask for a remote but it only powers on the TV you still have to futz with the iPad to change channels. Some reviewers were smitten at the high tech. I found it to be mostly gimmicky, and really part of a larger head fake to distract guests from the overarching premise of this hotel which is “how many units can we possibly pack into this hotel? We will distract with hi tech, cleanliness, service, big beds, and we bet guests won’t dwell on the room size.“ I feel they pushed the concept a bit too far. The flat out bad: The view, though this depends on your room location. We had a view of … a nearby solid brick wall. Depressing , actually. YMMV. Summary: you can make this hotel work for you; just accept the fact that your room is a minimalist launching pad not a destination. The smallness of the room was a constant low level annoyance, but I concede the hotel was well located, very clean, fresh, friendly and those are no...
Read moreIt’s the worst hotel I ever stayed at.The rooms are like sleeping in the closet. The room is literally 8‘ x 22‘. It’s the width of the bed and then the TV is like right at the end of the bed and it’s a big screen but it’s so big and it’s so close and you have to look up at it. You get a big knot in your neck and feel dizzy because it’s like 6 feet away from your eyes.
When you come in and the first thing you see is a bathroom sink everything is made out of plastic and kind of cheap. And then they have colored lights in the shower that I guess is meant to distract you from all of the plastic furniture and tacky decor.
Do not go there if you suffer from any type of claustrophobia because it’ll make you even more claustrophobic. The colors of the hotel are abominable. The carpets are blood red and all the doors are satanic black. It’s like it’s decorated for vampires so if you’re a vampire, you should go there because the rooms are literally the size of a coffin.
The floors are made out of cheap laminate with chips in them. The shower door seals were coming off and hanging in the air. The elevator walls had spit all over them and they didn’t even wash it off if you’re up at the top floor or near the top it takes a eternity for the elevator to come up to pick you up and bring you down because the service personnel use the elevators and Jam them up, so it takes forever for them to come up to you to pick you up.
The people that work there are more worried about socializing with each other than helping the customers. The food is marginal at best and it’s always the same. Just scrambled egg with bacon that’s way too rich and potatoes that are mushy, The fruit is partially rotten. They serve some salmon, but it smells fishy.
I wouldn’t waste your money on this hotel. It’s not even worth $60 a night. When I came in, they have construction going on with some guy putting the sign up and Sparks are coming down on your head they have the sign that they’re gonna put up just laying on the sidewalk for people to trip over. When you go out on the street the first thing you’ll smell is the sewer San Francisco’s disgusting. Homeless people all over the place street vendors playing screeching, loud music. The only repose you’ll get in San Francisco is going into the Trader Joe’s.
Everything is hooked to the iPad all the controls and it’s distracting and annoying at best. The best part of it was that I have an iPhone and I forgot my charger and because they use an iPad for the controls. I was able to use their iPad cord to charge my phone lol.
It’s basically clean, except for the hidden spots like behind the TV there’s a whole layer of dust and dirt. Which affects Your breathing and then there’s no ventilation so you’re just breathing all of the recycled air...
Read moreI stayed in CitizenM with my wife and one of my friend from May 15-22 for a conference at Moscone Center. The location is quite strategic; not only is it walkable to the Moscone Center from here, but also it is walkable to several places you should go to in San Francisco, such as Union Square, starting point for the renowned cable car, SF MOMA, and Yerba Buena Garden. There are also several public transportation accessible nearby, such as BART, Metro, Muni buses, streetcars, and cable cars, so it is very strategic for sightseeing around San Francisco.||||The facilities offered by the hotel are quite complete for my needs. The room is neat, albeit not so vast, and quite high tech, since there is an Ipad in the room that acts as the command control to the room, so you can control the TV, the curtain, the lamp, even when you want your room to be cleaned from that Ipad. There is also a gym that is open 24 hours with several devices and a water station. Its co-working space is also neatly designed and very comfy.||||There is a restaurant in the hotel, dubbed canteenM. It provides breakfast, and there are also several foods and beverages that can be ordered. Other than that, the hotel staff are very helpful. They told us that we can ask for water in the canteen and they will provide it. Sometimes we also asked them for help with providing hot water for us making instant noodles, and they helped us. They also showed us a microwave that can be used.||||If there is one thing that can be improved; since we stayed for quite a long time, we noticed that the breakfast options, although still quite various, are quite similar from day to day; scrambled egg, chicken sausage (oh it's so delicious it is to die for!), bagel, toast, pastries, salad station, cheese, and smoked salmon. There is also bacon, ham, and salami in the option (obviously I cannot eat it). Oh, there are some beverages also, like coffee, tea, and juice. You can order some of the coffee (try ice mocha with half and half and additional chocolate, if I may recommend). One thing that may be different is one day they served roasted tomatoes, another day they served roasted potatoes. There is also some variety in the pastries, but that's it. If I may suggest, maybe you can add one or two options of foods that reflect the diversity of San Francisco, like maybe some Latino foods on one day, Chinese food on another, or Italian, Filipino, Vietnamese, or others. This kind of additional variety may spice up our breakfast options, especially for someone staying for quite a long time like us. Overall, a very nice experience at CitizenM San Francisco. Keep up...
