7/16 update I guess the food is still good?? I visited for lunch, the place was at 20% full. There’s a big sign saying to wait for hostess but now there’s no hostess. A counter person tells me to order with them when I just found the menu. I see there’s a PSC meatball Parm hero and an Artichoke dip baked penne… now we are two waiting for help but folks are momentarily in the back, no sweat. A person working on their laptop asks if I am ready to order, I ask her my questions and she explains me a hero is a sandwich (gee!! So many years in this country and I don’t know this! I say to her). I ask about the dip and pasta, is it more like a dip? Clear question, right? It says dip, is it a dip? Her answer with raised brow and looking over her glasses: “Have you ever had artichoke dip??” Yes, I say, and leave. I want lunch, not condescension 🙏🏾
Let’s check that Thai place on Geary!! ——————— My goodness gracious! I visited Pasta Supply Co yesterday and had a memorable dinner 🔥 I am super picky with my pasta but finally found a place that tastes like an Italian trattoria 😋 First you gotta check the menu because once you are called to your table, you order with the host. There’s a waiting list that goes fast, and while you wait they let you order wine that you can enjoy outside.
We ordered the small burrata with Pan’terra, it came with a dollop of salsa verde and it was decadent! I looooved the asparagus with gusano salt but they were too salty for my friend (more for me!). Then we had the mafaldine with black butter, which made us sigh; and the lobster butter with a lobster tail, the sauce was exquisite, salty with tomato and anchovies and sprinkle of fresh basil. For dessert we tried the chocolate panna cotta (I wish we had the olive oil one, with fresh citrus, but my friend is chocoholic 🙄), as expected it was very rich, good, but quickly filling (after all that food, lol). To drink we got a bottle of Portuguese vinho verde which complemented perfectly our meal.
There’s a crew of chit chatters in white lab coats that come to the table once in a while to check in… hm, ok. I wasn’t sure about their role and why the attire.
The staff is very nice and knowledgeable but we got check ins and comments from pretty much everyone working there. Not annoying just, high touch. It’s the first week, I am sure it will find its flow.
In all it was $80+ a head and 15% gratuity is automatically added to your total. It was totally worth it and I am planning to come...
Read moreWow!! Stopped by early on a Sat evening just to check it out as I had heard good things. The place was jam packed with happy people enjoying bowls of insanely delicious looking pastas. We didn't have time to wait for a table so instead decided to go to the takeout counter and get some provisions to bring home and make for dinner. I can't even tell you--the woman behind the counter (can't recall her name--dirty blonde hair, the nicest person on earth) was INCREDIBLE. Not having eaten there before, we were kind of at a loss of where to begin and asked for her thoughts. Turned out to be a smart move bc she took TONS of time to walk us thru all the offerings, e.g., which pastas work best with the various sauces, the filled pastas (which they're busy making fresh right behind the counter), cheeses, breads, etc. She spoke w such pride and excitement about the products, it was immediately infectious and I got really excited about bringing this food home. We ended up choosing a lamb bolognese made w plant-based lamb (Black Sheep, which Souvla also uses and is INSANELY good and tastes just like lamb!!). When it was time for checkout, the coolest gentleman started ringing us up, all smiles and gratitude, and we got to talking. Turned out he's the owner, Anthony. With SUCH a sweet guy at the helm, it's no wonder their service style is as excellent and approachable as it is. We immediately felt like we were a part of this joint in some way, and that we were warmly welcomed back. Mind you, all of this took place at the takeout counter, as we were moving thru from selection to take out. We didn't even eat there and yet walked away glowing from the wonderful and personal service experience, and on a busy Sat night to boot! The food, btw, was EXTRAORDINARY--and I can't wait to come back!! Only nine months in and already so great...I can't wait to watch this place continue to blossom and hopefully expand with other locations. Go, go, go--you'll be...
Read moreI've walked by this shop countless times--it has an enticing display of a variety of pastas in a display case that can be seen from the street. The pastas themselves, however, are sold pre-measured in bags that are kept in a fridge behind the display case, made who knows how long ago. I finally ventured into this store/restaurant last weekend and purchased two varieties of pasta, a total of 5 bags, and spent nearly $50 (this included a tip). The pasta was a disappointment--flabby, bland, and tasteless. I was surprised to find that one of the bags contained pasta made from a different dough--it was a pale white color and cooked up to an unpleasant gummy textured noodle. I'm pretty sure that the clerk mistakenly sold me a gluten-free pasta, but it was not labelled as such. The other pasta was golden, but had a rancid flavor, as if the flour was too old. Despite adhering to the cooking instructions on the bag (boil for 2 minutes), the pasta was blown out, like the canned chef boyardee stuff. Both pastas wrecked my sauce (a short rib ragu that I spent hours cooking). I'm glad I finally tried it and know to steer clear...
