My friend living in Japan basically wanted non-Asian based cuisines while visiting me in San Francisco. She's from LA, so I know I had to impress her with a good Mexican spot. So I took her here.
She ordered the tamales, and I got the plantain burrito. We both ordered an horchata. She loved it! Prices are standard, but she did get a pretty decent portion. Her order had 2 tamales, rice, and beans. She only could eat half. My burrito was also quite large. I only could eat a third.
Now, one of my favorite dishes is plantains with black beans and crema. To find it in burrito form is a dream come true! Both savory and sweet, all the flavors come together harmoniously rolled up in a tortilla.
It made a very good breakfast the next morning.
The restaurant is small, and you pick up your meal at the counter. Your order also comes with 1 basket of chips, and there's different salsas available.
The first time I came here, I had a panucho with one of their chicken moles. It was that dish that prompted me to come back here again. I definitely want to try more of the dishes available...
Read moreLet me start by saying that the food deserves 5 stars. We've ordered so much food from this place, and it's always delicious. We recommend the al pastor super burrito to everyone we know.
But tonight we tried to order using their online system, and after a glitch, our order was changed from delivery to pickup. We aren't able to do pickup, so my husband called to request our order be changed to delivery. After rude phone interactions with two different people at the restaurant and being told the order couldn't be changed to delivery, we canceled our pickup order and placed a new order for delivery, no glitch this time. 15 minutes after placing the new order, it was canceled by the restaurant. No phone call, no communication, just an automatic cancelation email from the online system.
I'm so disappointed. I loved supporting this restaurant. But I can't get past the rudeness and the fact that they canceled our order. And for what? So loyal customers, who can't do pickup, couldn't have dinner? Think twice about ordering from here if you have to interact with the...
Read moreMy son and I are reviewing the tacos around the city and this is our first spot. My son ordered Taco de La Abuelita Chicken Mole Taco, and the Motuleno and I ordered the Cochinita and Chicken Mole. The Motuleno was solid, good flavor, home made tortilla and sauces you can choose from a sauce bar. We chose the Green Salsa, Mango, and the red/spiciest sauce available. All were good, the chips are thin and most were crispy. The Cochinita was my favorite as it had a bit of spice and the meat was moist and tasty. We both ordered the Michelada which gives you a choice of beer - my son says if you don't order with the Negro Modelo you shouldn't be ordering a Michelada :). My son gives this a 6.8 out of ten, and I give the whole experience a 7. My son would bring a friend for the whimsical way they present the Michaelada (beer upside down with Tamarin on the rim...
