This place is riding Anthony Bourdain's coattails.
We were acknowledged when we walked in, I ordered but the person behind the bar was curt & talking to himself.
I've been to a lot of bbqs & when I was 14 I flipped burgers at a local swim & tennis club... I'm 90% certain that the meat is 85/15 from costco.... It had the same consistency and flavor.
The toppings were good, the bun was a bit soft. I appreciated the sesame seeds.
The burger was fine - it wasn't terrible, it wasn't great. This place certainly doesn't live up to "Top 3 Burgers in the world".
The racism also wasn't cool. A group of four black people walked in. They ordered and then they were standing at the precipice of the restaurant while waiting for their food.
The person who took our order started screaming at them. He screamed at them to get off the door... They weren't blocking the door.... Three of them were sitting at the bar & one of them was standing against the wall because there wasn't a seat available...
The group was surprised at his shouting... We immediately felt uncomfortable and left because we were worried the order taker was going to escalate the interaction.
On the way out, I told the grouop "That was f'd up" and kept going.
Costco style burgers, racist staff.. F this place....
Read moreI don't buy it. Not one bit. I know Anthony Bourdain was here, but I wasn't satisfied with the late night burger munchies after a few rounds of drinks. The guy behind the counter was really nice and grilled the burgers quick like a machine! Small diner and very little room to breathe, I'm flabbergasted with the price! Close to $10 for a measly amount of fries and a burger? Okay, I gave it a shot and got the Anthony Bourdain's special. Was I impressed? No. I think a couple of reviewers must've been drunk out of their minds, because I didn't find my burger tasteful. I don't know, maybe I came here on an off day? The meat seemed under-seasoned with very little amount of meat and the fries were sitting stale. I couldn't fathom chewing on their pizza that looked like it was sitting there for days! Personally, I like that it's open late, not too far of a walk if you're drinking around Chinatown and North Beach, and the guy working the grill is really nice. Mr. Bourdain was right about one thing, SF is dubbed "the two-fisted drinking town, a carnivorous meat-eating town, it's dirty and nasty and wonderful." Heck, he said this while he was in his drunken state filming The Layover. Will I...
Read moreI used to love this place. I visit SF several times a year and after a night of drinks, stopping off here is a great end to the night. Burgers and fries are great, but the service was absolutely horrific. I recently went on 12/6 and the gentleman taking orders was extremely rude! At one point he told my friend and I we could leave it I didn't shut up because I laughed at something my friend said. He told customers in line he wouldn't serve them, and it seemed to me they did nothing wrong. One guy asked if he could be served next as the gentlemen kept helping others in line behind him, he ignored him completely. He served several beers to girls in the line well past 2, but was upset when I asked at 1:45 and said I didn't have time to drink it. Horrible, terrible service and I won't be back. The sad thing is many Sam's faithful were put off by this guy and said they wouldn't be back either. The guy said he had been working there for 2 weeks, well if he remains there Sam's is going to be in trouble with the late...
