Was a little concerned about this place since bathrooms are in the hall and judging by reviews. However, I should know better from past experience that it's best to keep an open mind and not trust the opinions of ill-informed reviewers who love to complain. It was much better than I thought.||||Booked this hotel on Orbitz for one Saturday night at a very good rate. Very well-located in vibrant North Beach, near Chinatown, about a 10 minute walk to the Ferry Terminal, two blocks from the Transamerica building. It's a reasonable walk to many attractions and a bus to Fishermans Wharf passes every few minutes. There are countless dining options of every kind in a stone's throw including some very charming sidewalk cafes. There are some strip clubs nearby too but if that's not your thing, just avoid them because there are many very desirable places to drink or dine. ||||It's an old building. I entered the large lobby which featured several couches, a computer desk and display case with memorabilia on the hotel and area. Desk clerk was reasonably friendly and checked me in fast. I took the large, modern elevator to the fourth floor. The hallways are long and darkish, reminding you of a place where Michael Douglas and Karl Malden might have kicked in a door or two. That said, the room was fine and I didn't encounter any strange clientele. Room had two full beds, each with four pillows, table, chair and lamp, fridge and microwave, small dresser, flat-screen TV, sink and closet. There were two large towels, two wash clothes, two hand towels, cups, soap bars and small shampoo tubes. There was a light on the ceiling and wifi worked perfectly. I streamed video for hours with no problem. There is an old radiator but no cooling of any kind so I doubt I'd stay here in the warmer months. ||||Room was comfy and clean. I anticipated it being noisy from outside and brought a small fan that I normally use anyway. There were occasional police sirens, horns honking and one point late where music from a nearby club had woke me up. but the place is a bit removed from the busiest area and actually a little quieter that I expected. If you're a light sleeper, perhaps ask for a back room or not choose this hotel. Finally, I counted about six individual bathrooms on my floor, each with toilet sink and shower. All that I looked at were pretty clean and the number proved more than adequate to serve the floor's guests, at least when I was there.||||I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again but just be aware, it's not a chain but an older property lacking certain amenities that might be...

Read moreThis place is amazing both historical and charming and has so much history and personality staff was wonderful and very helpful I love the old historical building and they even have an old phone booth in the second floor price was perfect you are right in the middle of everything right in the hub Chinatown Little Italy 20 minute walk from the San Francisco Bay Pier beautiful and wonderful restaurants and bars and authentic Asian restaurants scenery is beautiful the architecture all around them is beautiful it was quiet and clean and the bathrooms were very clean and they were tiny cute little efficiency apartment type rooms felt safe there woke up smelling bleach because the bathrooms were being scrubbed out residents were very very friendly and like I said you're right in the hub of everything short walking distance from everything it was inexpensive and perfect for a one-night stay. When I looked this place up to find a room it was actually under a hostel I imagine because the shared bathrooms but we're very clean showers were hot and clean toilets etc very clean they did provide soap shampoo etc thought this place was perfect considering what was surrounding you the only outside noise was the busy San Francisco streets and the people that were enjoying Chinatown and Little Italy like I said the residents there not just the other hotel guests because people did live there we're super friendly. There are lamps in the room that work because the overhead light did not we were given keys to another room by the staff but that light didn't work either we were explained that the building is going under renovations it was a very very old historical building which I thought was super cool so we were cool with that this place has so much personality you'll never find anything like it and it was a perfect location we had no bugs it did not smell and was very clean the staff was super friendly and we met four of them in...
